No Man's Sky NEXT - Where to find Chromatic Metal, Pure Ferrite, Sodium Nitrate, Hermetic Seal

No Man’s Sky NEXT is a procedural world filled with possibilities. The thing about having so much choice though is that it can be a little overwhelming. Here’s how to find or craft a few common items that we’ve seen people having trouble with since the NEXT update dropped, including Chromatic Metal, Pure Ferrite, Sodium Nitrate and Hermetic Seals.

Where to find Chromatic Metal in No Man’s Sky NEXT:

Chromatic Metal is a vital ingredient in making one of No Man’s Sky NEXT’s most important items: the Base Computer. Chromatic Metal is crafted by using Copper in a Portable Refiner. We’ve got a dedicated section on how to use the Refiner in our No Man’s Sky NEXT FAQ if you’re stuck.

To find Copper, you’ll need to be on a planet that lists it as one of its resources. You can then use your zoom Analysis Visor (L2 on PS4, F on PC) to look for nearby deposits and tag them as a waypoint. You’ll know when you find some because of the golden yellow veins in the ground. You can then excavate it using the Terrain Manipulator Multi-Tool.

Once you’ve got the copper, set up your Portable Refiner and load in some carbon for fuel. You can then add the copper and craft as much Chromatic Metal as you need.

Where to find Pure Ferrite in No Man’s Sky NEXT:

Pure Ferrite is another material that’s needed during the early game, but can be tough to find. There are two quite easy ways to get some though.

The first is to mine Pure Ferrite from large rocks that you can find around planets. This will require an Advanced Mining Laser though, so the next method is probably easier.

You can craft Pure Ferrite by using a Refiner loaded with Ferrite Dust. Ferrite Dust is a very common material that you can mine from small rocks littered around most planets.

Simply set up a Portable Refiner and pop some carbon in as fuel. Then chuck in some Ferrite Dust and craft as much Pure Ferrite as you need.

Where to find Sodium Nitrate in No Man’s Sky NEXT:

Sodium Nitrate is found in the same way as Pure Ferrite and Chromatic Metal. You just have to use the sodium that you find in the sodium-rich planets that’re scattered around planets’ surfaces with a Portable Refiner.

Just add carbon, then Sodium, and you can craft as much Sodium Nitrate as you need.

How to get a Hermetic Seal in No Man’s Sky NEXT:

There are a couple of ways to get a Hermetic Seal after the NEXT update. The first is to craft them yourself out of 30 Condensed Carbon. To do this, you need to go into your inventory, hover over an empty space and press to “Craft Product”.

Alternatively, you can also sometimes buy Hermetic Seals from Technology Merchants in outposts that you can find. If you ask a Signal Booster to “Find a Nearby Structure”, it’ll often find a small shelter with a Technology Vendor inside.
