DOOM's free Update 2 out tomorrow, Unto the Evil DLC dated, earn double XP this weekend

We have three different bits of DOOM news for you today, so let's get started.

Tomorrow, July 29, Update 2 will be released and it won't cost you a dime.

It comes with two new multiplayer game modes: Exodus - a one-flag capture-the-flag mode with constantly moving bases and flags; and Sector - an objective-based capture-and-hold mode. Both modes can be played on any existing or future maps.

Update 2 also adds new capabilities for SnapMap such as customizable weapon wheel functionality which allows players to select multiple weapons as they do in the campaign. Jump pads with "logic to set distance, speed and direction" was added along with 30 new Hell-themed modules.

Also included is an expanded weapon list, a new playable demon – the Mancubus – and many improvements to the Community HUB, editor and more.

Check back here early next week for a detailed list of additions and changes. These new modes and all of the SnapMap content and updates are free to all players.

To prepare for the update, the servers will be brought down on July 29 at 12pm ET/5pm until 2pm ET/7pm UK. Full patch notes will be made available.

The video posted above also teases the first premium DLC pack on the way, Unto the Evil. It will be made available worldwide on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One for $14.99/£11.99/€14.99 on August 5 and includes the following for multiplayer:

  • Three new maps: Offering, Cataclysm, and Ritual
  • A new player-controlled demon: Harvester
  • A new weapon: UAC EMG Pistol
  • New equipment: Kinetic Mine
  • New ways to customize your Marine, including additional armor sets, patterns, colors, and taunts
  • New hack modules

Also, starting tomorrow, Doom players can participate in a Double XP multiplayer weekend. It kicks off at 12pm ET/5pm UK and ends at the same time on Monday, August 1.
