The upcoming Quake Champions will include a class system, on top of being an old-school arena shooter. This mix is definitely unique, but it’s left some people worried about the implementation.

In a new video, developer id Software goes into a bit of detail about what that means for a shooter like Quake, and what these abilities are actually going to be.

Studio director Tim Willits explains that every champion will have a unique active ability. Three of the four abilities are movement-based, with only one giving a tactical advantage by revealing enemies through walls.

The four classes shown in the reveal trailer, Ranger, Visor, Nyx, and Scale Bearer all appear to be based on classoc archetypes we’ve seen in the past (heavy, light etc.). See this and more in the video below:

Quake Champions is out sometime next year, and id will focus on PC first.
