Battlefield 4 Xbox 360: mandatory install problems addressed by EA Support

Battlefield 's Xbox 360 edition features a mandatory install the first time you boot the game up. EA's tech support team has posted a blog to assist those experiencing trouble with the installation.

The blog post explains that the installation must be performed on the console's hard drive, rather than external storage, or it will not work.

It explains that the data, "can only be installed on Xbox 360 hard disk drives, and cannot be installed to USB drives, or other alternative storage devices. Battlefield 4 cannot be installed and played on a 4GB internal flash drive. You will have the option to accept the 2GB install or quit. Quitting will return you to the Xbox dashboard, and you will not be able to play Battlefield 4."

That's a kick in the teeth for anyone with a 4GB console wanting to perform the game's additional installs. The optional singe-player install weight in at 5.8 GB, while the optional multiplayer install demands 6.6 GB of free space.

The blog also warns, "If you do try to install the optional disc-content before the required game data installation, your install will stop before completion, and ask you to install again. If your install does fail due to installing content in the incorrect order, your second or subsequent attempts at installing the required content should complete successfully."
