The Secret World dev rewards marathon gamer with Tokyo preview
Well, this is just lovely. The Secret World: Issue #6 contains a train journey which players are tasked with interrupting, but one intrepid livestreamer decided to see what would happen if she simply stayed on The Last Train to Cairo. After thirteen hours, game director Joel Bylos turned up and rewarded her faith with a trip to Tokyo – an in-development zone which fans are very, very keen to see. Bylos let the livestream continue, with the result that you can relive the experience on Twitch – just skip the first 13 hours and 47 minutes.

The Secret World: Issue #6 – The Last Train to Cairo, will take place in Egypt, and has players travelling back in time to “unearth powerful artifacts” and to uncover the “ultimate purpose” of the Atenists and their prophet, according to Funcom.

Funcom has announced it’s closing its Beijing studio, while at the same time forming a “joint, centralized live team” at its Raleigh, North Carolina studio. The firm also announced its Montreal Studio’s focus will switch to mobile and tablet projects.

Funcom restructure results in heavy lay-offs at Montreal studio
Funcom’s restructuring has begun to takes its grim toll. Although the company told Massively that games won’t be affected and its Montreal office will remain open, lay-offs have apparently been widespread enough that former staff believe the studio is closing altogether. All the best to those affected by the job cuts.

The Secret World ‘End of Days’ event update now live, kicks off Dec 21st
The Secret World Issue #5: The Vanishing of Tyler Freeborn has gone live now, and brings with it the Mayan-themed ‘End of Days’ event that begins tomorrow, December 21st. The update follows an ARG game orchestrated by Funcom that saw gamers hacking and solving equations to earn in-game items. We’ve got some more event details after the jump.

THQ, Gaia Online, NCsoft and Funcom join Operation Game Over
THQ, Gaia Online, NCsoft and Funcom have joined Operation Game Over, with the result that over 2,100 online game accounts linked to registered sex offenders have been wiped. GamesIndustry reports the new additions to the initiative join Microsoft, Apple, Blizzard, EA, Disney, Warner Bros. and Sony, who collectively erased more than 3,500 accounts in an earlier purge. Operation Game Over is an extension of New York’s Electronic Securing and Targeting of Online Predators Act, which requires known offenders to register their online ID details, offering community hosts the opportunity to ban them. The program is intended to assist in protecting minors from sexual predators.
