Speaking to VG247 today, Pure director Jason Avent said that the differences between PS3 and 360 were comparable to the differences between LCD and Plasma TVs.
“Their final render hardware seems to produce slightly different results in terms of how colours are represented and one is often softer than the other but it’s really only as different as a good LCD TV is from a Plasma,” said the developer.
Avent said working on PS3 with Pure had presented a “new challenge,” but that 360 and PS3 were much of a muchness in the right hands.
“We’ve been working on Xbox 360 for years now, so PS3 was a new challenge, yes,” he said.
“MotoGP 06 and 07 led on 360, but we were already developing PS3 versions of our technologies before we started Pure, so it wasn’t very far behind.
“They’re both great machines and if you do things right, there isn’t much difference between them in terms of capability.”
ATV racer Pure’s already catching critical acclaim, and releases later this month.

Eurogamer.pt’s posted up a comparison video of the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of Pure. Not much in it, obviously, apart from the colour pallete, maybe.
Differences aside, the ATV racer looks excellent, and we’re starting to get nudges that this may very well be one to watch. You can get demos on both PSN and Live now.
Game’s out this “autumn.”

Get it. Why wouldn’t you?

A new movie here of Disney quad racer Pure, hitting PC, PS3 and 360 this autumn. There’s some new CG in there that gives a good idea that this may well be competition-free at the end of year. We certainly haven’t seen much else like it planned for 2008. Take a look.

Disney’s racing studio – Black Rock, based in Brighton, UK – just gave official word of its first big game since being taken over by the US giant. Titled Pure, the game will feature “launching off massive peaks while racing against skilled rivals and performing gravity-defying aerial tricks” and is described as an “extreme sports and off-road, quad racing video game targeted for release in autumn 2008.”
The blurb continued: “Players start by choosing among a variety of male and female character riders. They can then either race against deft A.I. opponents or online players (up to 16-player multiplayer) in frenetic races and freestyle competitions all over the world.”
Pure’s launching on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. More on this soon.
