Rise of the Tomb Raider will give players an opportunity to "compete with their friends"

Rise of the Tomb Raider will have an online component of some sort, but Microsoft is remaining coy for the time being.

Earlier reports out of Xbox Magazine stated multiplayer (AGB) had been "cut", but Microsoft told Videogamer players can expect a feature which will "extend" the single-player campaign along with the ability to "compete" with friends.

"In the coming weeks and months, stay tuned for more info on all things Rise of the Tomb Raider," said Microsoft.

The vagueness of the statement suggests an online competitive mode could be part of the single-player experience, as Videogamer pointed out.

Multiplayer was present in 2013's Tomb Raider and featured a round-based mode, Cry for Help, Free For All and Team Deathmatch.

This is likely what Xbox Magazine meant when it said multiplayer was "cut" from the game.

Expect more details closer to the game's November 10 launch.
