The Halo 5: Guardians release date may have leaked

Halo 5: Guardians may have a release date, thanks to a possible social media slip up.

Update: Microsoft has told IGN that "the recent rumours regarding the release date of 'Halo 5: Guardians' are false".

Original story:

Halo developer 343 Industries took on a new staff member recently: eSports coach Michael Cavanaugh.

One of Cavanaugh's first acts in his new role was to tweet a photo looking more than happy to be working in the home of Halo.

Unfortunately, doing so might have leaked Halo 5: Guardians' release date: look at the red LED counter beneath the banner at the top of the photo.

We have absolutely no proof that this is a release date target countdown, but if the number refers to days it works out as November 10 2015, which certainly sounds right.

The tweet has been live for several hours now and received a lot of attention, but has not been deleted. This suggests that Microsoft and 343 Industries don't consider it of much import, so it's probably nothing.

Still, if this does turn out to be an error - what a way to start a new job, ha ha.
