Heavensward is the first expansion for Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn

Heavensward is the first expansion for Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn, and it's set for a spring 2015 release according to Square Enix.

The expansion was announced this weekend during the Final Fantasy 14 Fan Festival in Las Vegas, and the keynote was broadcast on Twitch. You can watch replay through the link if you like.

According to information on the expansion posted by Gematsu, the expansion takes place in Ishgard, and the key plot revolve around the ongoing thousand-year war between the city and Dravinia.

Ishgard is ruled by an archbishop and "four noble horses" and contains varying geographical elements such as fields, highlands, mountains and floating land masses "above and beyond a sea of clouds.”

The city is contains a physical divide separating commoners and the privileged.

Another city state, according to some slides on the expansion, called The Holy See of Ishgard, will also be included along with new recipes, gear, jobs, areas, dungeons, high-end raids, airships, and new primals.

There will also be a new playable character race which is hinted to be the Viangaa.

Another plot in the expansion revolves are the The Wyrmking and his issues with Thordan and his Knights Twelve.
