Battlefield 4 Squad Join now in beta on consoles

Battlefield 4 now offers console players the chance to group up with friends via the Squad Join feature.

Currently in beta, Squad Join is available on PlayStation 3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. It is expected to launch in full as part of the Dragon's Teeth update in northern summer.

Squad Join is not in the works for PC, as users can just join friends using Battlelog on the system, an EA representative told Polygon.

At this stage, squad join allows you to group with four friends before joining a multiplayer server, keeping you together as a crew of five through multiple rounds. It is available on core game maps in Conquest, Team Deathmatch, Obliteration, Rush and Domination game modes, and will proliferate to other maps and modes in the future.

On the Battlefield Blog, DICE acknowledged demand for the feature.

"Connecting and playing with your friends has always been a central aspect of the Battlefield multiplayer experience. This is something we know our fans have been asking for – and something we wish we could have provided at launch – so we are now happy to present the first iteration of Squad Join," the developer wrote.

The video below shows how it's done, but basically you just select "Squad Join beta" from the BF4 multiplayer menu.
