Watch Dogs programmer: “Frame rate is very important to the gameplay”

Ubisoft Montreal’s lead programmer Francis Boivin has emphasised the importance of frame rate in the game.

Speaking with GamingBolt he detailed the anti-aliasing solution used in the next-gen console versions of the game.

“Frame rate is very important to the gameplay, to the controls. It’s not something you want to compromise on,” he said.

“Watch Dogs uses the same post-process anti-aliasing solution on both Xbox One and PS4. Each frame, a custom SMAA filter is applied on the image. On top of that, we smooth the image even more by using a temporal solution; that is, by re-projecting each pixel to its position in the previous frame and by letting each go through a set of heuristics tailored for the game, we’re able to further reduce visible aliasing.”

    Bullshit.

    Framerate has nothing to do with gameplay… it affects HOW the game looks and feels when it’s running.. but adds ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to actual gameplay.

    They better not be trying to tout framerate as a feature.

    Anyway wasn’t this game just a series of repetitive systems that even the devs were never happy with?.. a couple of months extra work to solve issues of boredom and repetition that have been baked in since concept 1…

    No chance.. this game will look great and play like a boring pos.

    @Tormenter Thats not true. 60fps over 30fps gives a much better and smoother gameplay. It is easier to aim for example.

    Lol. Great console quality. Ton’s of BLUR and pop ups for the 60 FPS.

    this is how Ground Zeroes was made. It looks fantastic in THEORY but to make sure that it is 60 fps on consoles you get the worse POP UPS ever just in one meter with blur all over the place.

    Next Gen my ass.

    @Tormenter No. It’s not true. It add’s fluidity and smoothness to the gameplay.
    60 frames per second is how the game SHOULD be played by everybody (in theory). 30 frames per second is a shitty standard. 30 frames means that your hardware is getting more heat and processing power have issue showing decent image for the player.

    60 FPS is a standard. A true standard for every game out there.
