Halo Xbox One concept art surfaces in wake of art director switcheroo

Friday, 10th January 2014 01:58 GMT By Brenna Hillier

Halo’s art director change has some fans worried, but so far its primary consequence is the release of this new piece of concept art for the upcoming Xbox One game.

In a post on Halo Waypoint, 343 Industries discussed recent changes to its team, including Tim Longo’s assumption of creative director duties, Josh Holmes’ sideways step into executive producer, former executive producer Kiki Wolfkill’s as yet unannounced new role, and Kenneth Scott’s decision to step down from the role of art director, allowing him to work remotely.

The core message of the piece is “business as usual”, and was accompanied by this new piece of art. “An early exploration of a new location that features prominently in a little game project we’re tinkering with,” Holmes wrote, which is either Halo Xbox One or a deliberately misleading lie, in which case send wasps by express post.

The Xbox One Halo game is coming in 2014. No mention was made in 343 Industries’ post of Halo lead writer Joe Staten’s return to Microsoft.

We’ve uploaded this full-size so you an get a really good look at it; please be patient while it loads in, and click to see it in full.

Thanks, IGN.

After the change of art director, the things he worked are only released if they are not going to be used anymore. So this won’t make it into the game (It’s probably from back when they thought Halo 4 is gonna be the best selling Halo).

Hopefully the changes inside the team means return to sci-fi roots in both aesthetics AND gameplay (Instead of removing every sci-fi weapon or turning them into military weapons in terms of behavior due to orders from stupid higher ups that listened to focus testers who wanted everything to be COD).

Good to have Joe back, maybe he wants to sneak his voice into another trilogy.
