Monday, 7th October 2013 09:43 GMT By Dave Cook

Grand Theft Auto 5′s has sold more in the UK than GTA 4 did in its life-span after just three weeks from release.

GI.biz reports that the game hit its milestone after launching on September 17 in the UK. It’s impressive seeing as GTA 4 still regularly appears in the UK top 40 chart today.

The site adds that GTA 5 is now the 12th biggest-selling game of all time, and sales have dropped 34% over last week’s figure.

We’ve got this weeks full UK top 20 here.

@2 why would the multiplayer bring down the amazing single player?

@3 Well, when you review a product, logic implies that you should review it as a whole, not just ignore the bad parts and praise the good ones.

Reviewers have had access to the online part for weeks allready, so when they reviewed the game they’ve had played it for far longer than people today have played it.

Still though, the singleplayer alone pisses over every other game this year, possible the whole generation. It’ll get GOTY for sure, i’d be willing to bet money on it.

Isn’t install base the reason for this?

I’ve kind of fizzled out on it for the moment. Prob about half way through and it’s dragging abit for me.

I think it looks great, but there isn’t much ‘life’ in the world (although it’s a huge step up from GTA 4 which I hated.)

Still, good game although def not GOTY for me. Also, the online section is a mess for me, can’t get a game for love nor money.

I think not, GTA Online wasn’t available to reviewers, at least I haven’t read a review mentioning the online experience. If so they should have waited for the final score.

IIRC Diablo 3 and SimCity reviews were plagued with negative reviews regarding network errors and the likes.

I’m not debating that it’ll get a GOTY reward but now days these awards are losing their appeals.

I don’t know of a single open world non RPG game with more life in it than GTAV.

Sure, i doubt they factored in the online part in their reviews, but for such a huge game release i doubt they want to wait two weeks with their review/score.

Nor I, but it’s still not enough in some respects. It gives the illusion of freedom.

But your right, it’s the best attempt yet.

I have to agree with CyberMarco, you should review the whole package, not just the perfect part of it, we saw too many games getting lower scores due to Online Issues, or SP being lackluster -when they focus on MP-, so a huge release like GTA shouldn’t be any different, huge games shouldn’t have a free pass.

As for GOTY, I’ll go with The Last of Us.

@8 “but for such a huge game release i doubt they want to wait two weeks with their review/score.”

Then the only thing that I can presume is that those reviews are sale-baits, and possibly the reviewers are sell-outs.

By no mean I’m saying that GTA V is a bad game, or don’t appreciate the effort given to achieve such a goal with limited resources, but credit where credit’s due.

And as SameeR-Fisher said regarding other games, I remember reviews giving BF3 single-player a hard time regardless that the game’s core appeal is its multiplayer.

The online is broke in some aspects, but arent all online games upon release? especially when they are aiming for something like an open world RPG with millions of players trying to play at once

“The online is broke in some aspects, but arent all online games upon release?”

And that’s why I don’t trust them (not only R*, but game devs in general) anymore. Go on and beta-test your “final” product on those impatience gamers, let them deal with all the bugs and crashes.

And also that somewhat destroys the ‘plug and play’ notion of consoles… Basically, their main plus point.

I expect this alot more next gen. Basically PC problems without the options a PC gives you.
