Company of Heroes getting Steamworks support, new version from May 7

Company of Heroes developer Relic Entertainment is opening up its World War II strategy game on Steamworks from May 7. The servers will switch, and a new download of the game will be made available on the day.

Strategy Informer reports that from May 7 older versions of the game will stop working, as the studio will close down the game's servers owned by Quazal, in favour of Steam support instead.

Fear not however, as the new build will have Steamworks support for the core game and expansions, and if you have an old build or boxed license key, you can grab the new version of the game free of charge.

If you bought the game on Steam already, you should see 'Company of Heroes (New Steam Version)' in your library in advance of the May 7 switch.

Everyone else should consult this official forum FAQ for information on how to switch over to the new build.
