Battlefield 4 screens creep out ahead of GDC reveal – rumour

Tuesday, 26th March 2013 23:08 GMT By Brenna Hillier

Three screenshots believed to show Battlefield 4 have appeared on the Internet ahead of the DICE shooter’s official reveal tomorrow.

The images are being passed around on several sites now, having been snaffled from a public directory on the Battlefield Blog – making it pretty unlikely these aren’t the real deal.

Battlefield 4 has its official reveal at GDC tomorrow, with a first proper trailer promised. We don’t have any official release information, but thanks to rumours, leaks, executive comments and speculation, we’re expecting it on PC, PlayStation 4 and Microsoft’s unannounced new console in the holiday season.

Thanks, AllGamesBeta.

@1 If it looks bad it is PS4′s/720′s fault then

  3. JRNO

Good thing they labelled those shots, because I could’ve sworn those were Medal of Honor: Warfighter screenshots.
Not impressed with these at all. Maybe the game running in action will change that.

  4. Crussong

How could you not be impressed?
Geez… could you be more spoiled than that?
    So called “gamers” nowdays..

  5. JRNO

Spoiled? I’m saying I don’t see anything in these screenshots, apart from the two different sights on the rifle, that I didn’t in Battlefield 3. I’m still looking forward to the possible announcements of battlerecorder and commander modes.

@5 Each has their own opinion, I think those look beautiful and I really don’t see PS4 getting 60 FPS even with that.

  7. Moonwalker1982

Looks absolutely awesome. If next-gen consoles can have the game looking like this and perhaps even with 60fps?….that would be like a dream really. For a game that comes out right alongside launch it would look damn impressive.

  8. Erthazus

It’s the same as Battlefield 3 but with a lot of particle effects and much better facial animation.
the problem is that it is not as big of a leap as BF3 to other shooters.
Next gen is about particle effects. You can make a lot of birds on the screen and stuff.

I’m sure this game will be 60 frames per second on next gen… PC as a platform on the other hand does not care because community there already experienced this next gen…

It’s a shame but oh well.

  9. Eddie Rodrigues

@8 The guns look really plastic-ish to me, the facial expressions were intriguing though. But PC gamers can fix this mistakes with mods :D

  10. Erthazus

Consoles again stops the evolution. What was next gen in 2011 on the PC is next gen on consoles right now in 2013 and in the end we will get simple control scheme without a commander on the PC.

  11. RocknRolla

Looks good :) not much new, but I just look for new weapons more detail :) more players on consoles :)

How did you judge ‘facial animation’ from stills?

Either way, it looks borked for next gen consoles.

Another reason PC master race is over spending on shit they can’t even optimise… Ha, the poor lambs…

  13. harr0w

yep looks uncannily like what i was playing two minutes ago, let the evolution begin oh erm sorry next gen. meh

Exactly, enjoy spending shit loads on GPU’s that never reach 60% of their potential, you are so cool.

Rajat Taneja, EA CTO, seemed very enthusiastic about Battlefield 4 saying that it is indeed “stunning”; he then follows up with an implication that PS4′s power is aiding the creative development of the title. The title runs in 1080p and 60FPS. “The imagination of the developers along with that power”; Rajat Taneja also sees the next generation of gaming consoles being 8-10x more powerful than this one we’re currently in.

There you go so don´t PS4 is slowing down PC and blah blah so on, if you don´t know something? look it up! ffs.. kids these days..

Let’s face it. PC gamers find it a bitter pill to swallow every time the platform gets overlooked as the step to new and evolutionary gaming.

It probably has something to do with not wanting to let go of the mouse and keyboard.

That and the PC is probably an after thought for most devs.

I actually feel bad for a lot of gamers, PC and console alike, they all think that new consoles will breath some fresh life into the industry but I bet you any money the best selling titles on next-gen consoles will be COD followed by FIFA.

Followed by a slew of great games that have “disappointing” sales.

    #22 2 years ago
  23. harr0w

well the proof will be in the pudding come tomorrow. @22 bang on the money there and if it continues this way you will see just like at the latter end of this generation fewer and fewer new IPs and more and more safe bets til that have no choice. Thats what was the major disappointment of the sony presentation not a great deal of new which will probably be the same for MS come there unveiling. Thats why steam and PC will always be my first choice in gaming because it doesnt suffer from that and hopefully never will.

Battlefield is just as guilty as CoD, for keeping FPS’s in a rut for nearly a decade.

    Still, looks pretty.

Oh & before the faithful leap to it’s defence, how many of you are hoping it has features it used to have, such as Commanders, etc.

Begging for the past is so innovative .

even Adam Sessler now admits pc gaming destroys consoles is going through another resurgence. In fact it fast returning to it’s glory days pretty fast.

PC vs Console GAMING w/ Special Guest Adam Sessler

GDC 13: PC gaming experiencing renaissance, says Luckey

Platform’s resurgence aiding developer interest in virtual reality headset Oculus Rift

PC gaming is in the midst of a renaissance, says Oculus Rift creator Palmer Luckey.

Speaking during an interview with Develop at GDC, the virtual reality tech guru said the platform was getting great exclusives and that a lot of emerging new business models such as free-to-play were experiencing a lot of growth on PC.

Luckey also said that much of the hype and interest surrounding the Oculus Rift was partly down to the resurgence of PC gaming, and the fact that the tech and services supporting it have improved greatly.

“I think the important factor for me is that PC gaming is seeing a renaissance – and there are even some great PC exclusives,” he said.

“That, and there is a lot of excitement about free-to-play and growth in that area and a lot of that is on PC. There is just a lot going on on PC – that’s why we are attracting interest, not because of a lack of information elsewhere.

What were people thinking. BF4 is a First Person shooter. so it will be always like this. no one can judge a game by 3 leaked screenshots. Anyway i can see birds :D

There’s a 17 mins of game play coming. Judge the game after that

@14 WTF are you talking about? 1st, majority of console games run at 1280*720*30. PC games at 1920*1080*60. That’s 4.5 times more pixels every second.

If each of those pixels were equal it would be cool, but those pixels are not equal. PC games have really good anti-aliasing which can be very heavy on the GPU and VRAM, generally higher resolution textures (more VRAM), better shadows and ambient occlusion (need CPU, GPU and VRAM) and better post-processing effects.

So considering all this I think those pixels require at least 5-10 times more power each, so we’re talking 20 to 50 times more power overall.

BF3 on PC might not look 25 times nicer than on consoles, but that’s about the power upgrade needed to play at 1920*1080*60 with AA, AF and better textures and effects.

You’re 60% figure is BS. Of course there’s a DX overhead but it’s far less than 40%.
