Uncharted 3 multiplayer goes free-to-play up to level 15

Tuesday, 26th February 2013 17:20 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

As hinted at earlier in the week, Uncharted 3 multiplayer has gone the free-to-play route, starting later today in North America and tomorrow in Europe.

Now, you will be able to download the free-to-play game from the PS Store, and play for as long as you want up to Level 15. Upon reaching level 15, you can choose to raise your level cap to 25 or remove the cap using microtransactions which will bring your level cap to 75, and it will also include all the legacy goodies.

The Co-op Arena and select modes are not included, and must be purchased. You can get the full list of what is free and what will cost you through the PS Blog.

Pricing wasn’t noted on the blog, but doing a search, we found Joystiq was given an preliminary pricing model.

To date, over 3.5 million people have played in over 37 million matches and over half a million players actively play Uncharted 3 each month.

    @Pat,
They said they were experimenting with different models in UC3 a long time ago. The game is already a huge success, so they could take these steps as it would help them to develop future payment models.

i am guessing Patrick means free to play multiplayer with micro transactions is the future? i am just hoping this means they will sell the single player portion for 30$ going forward. i know that’s wishful thinking.

my guess for the ps4 is retail games will be 60 dollars but digitally you can buy single player portion for 30$ or 40$ the max

But the multiplayer for those who have the disc isn’t limited, right?

@4: They are not going to do that. They are going to charge you 60 dollars for the full game anyway.

@6: It’s limited if you bought a used copy.

    the big question is..

if you have bought the game retail and bought the season pass way back…

can you just download this f2p mp part and play with all the stuff without paying YET again for it…

i guess we will not get an answer for this one. before someone tries it and see…

@7 I mean if I buy the GOTY edition of UC:3, I’ll be stuck with the F2P multiplayer?

@9: Probably. If it makes more money, they will do it.

@10, Probably? More like very unlikely.

Bah, with these premises I don’t see why I should even bother downloading it.

I’ll just wait to have the money to purchase the full game when it’s on sale.

@11: Let’s hope so, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they find a way to fuck it up.

So the micro-transactions would be for the level cap and DLC, which is already included in the GOTY edition, right?
