Games TM – 4/10
PS3gen.fr – 5/10
ITNewsAfrica – 7.9

Expected. In my opinion Gearbox software didn’t made something decent this gen. Even Borderlands is mediocre, but the only reason it sold so well and was very well recieved is because it had loot and nice art-style in FPS.

In the end Aliens is the same failure as Duke Nukem forever.

The game is being sent out to die and will probably end up in mid 60s(at best).

@5 It launched today. Retailers in Australia and Europe were given the go-ahead to break the street date apparently.

I was thinking the samething Max. I will prolly pick it up down the road in a Steam 4pack for a small fraction of the launch price.

Gearbox should really solve their problems as soon as possible. After the fiasco that was Duke Nukem Forever, and the same path this one seems to follow, I don’t know how many lives they have left.

I saw a poster for this at Gamestop, where if you pre-order, you get multiplayer skins for Hudson (makes sense), Hicks (makes even more sense), Drake (I think if you mentioned him to most people, they wouldn’t even know who he was until you mentioned he had a giant gun), and Apone. Who the fuck even knew what Apone’s name was in the movie. He was the fucking drill sergeant who dies super early on. Also couldn’t help but notice no Vasquez skin. I guess they’re afraid it’ll scare off the dudebros if they get a female character’s skin.

@17 Anyone who knows ALIENS knows this characters and everyone else in it too, stuff of legends each and every one, even that c*nt Burke!!

@18: the TOTALLY should have created a multiplayer mode called “kill Burke”. Now THAT would have been awesome.

So disappointed that the game is not looking very good. I REALLY wanted a good Alien game :/
Might as well try “Alien vs Predator” (didn’t buy it back then but now it can be found for like 10 euros)

@17: Don’t know Apone…If they watched the film enough, I doubt that applies to a lot of people. He’s a bold presence in the opening act.

I just plain rolled my eyes when I saw a damn season pass materialise on the digital stores for this, last week! What a joke. It knocked my interest to see that being applied.
There seems to be just this accumulation of cynical practice from SEGA, or their marketing team, or whoever’s leading the ship when it comes to positioning this game.

No Vasquez: when you’re talking about memorable characters of that film, it’s strange not to include her. Was there no way, or did they have some marketing gooseberry consult a think tank, or quote spreadsheet to determine that the idea was not any importance. I don’t know! But, I am surprised with these scores. :( I expected, anticipated CM to become a much-cited example of a quality game, that overcame clammy publisher influence to show how a good game will win through – one of the shining last moments of the current generation…That this may not happen is unfortunate.

@19: If you can, get AVP on Steam (IF you mean the original – I momentarily forgot the more recent version) as it’s, to read the description, almost like a remastered version containing all of the original with controller support and other modern conveniences: http://store.steampowered.com/app/3730/

Well, Burke was the villain so everyone knows him.

But I just find it so odd to not include Vasquez but to include Apone. Vasquez is one of the main characters. Not equal to Hick, Newt, or Ripley, but definitely up there with Hudson, arguably Bishop. Hell, I’d actually find it make more sense to include Gormon over Apone, because even if Gormon did freak out during the film, he did live longer than Apone did.

I’ve my review ready to publish tomorrow in my portuguese gaming website. I’ve being playing the game for 5 days now. And i will say one thing i had high expectations. And the only thing about the game i can say for now, is, i’m a sad Alien fan.

Neogaf has a thread entitled: “Aliens: Colonial Marines review thread of broken dreams and movie references”.

Rob Florence tweeted: “If a postman delivers that game you pre-ordered tomorrow, kick that fucker back through the letterbox.”

Such a crying shame that this grand Alien-theme can’t get more respect. So many tries, so many flaws. In the end, it may be impossible to make a decent Alien(s) game….

“In space no one can hear me scream
Because I have no F*ckin .exe file.”…Australian would-be players of the Collector’s Edition take to the Gearbox forums as they found themselves impeded from playing their new game: http://forums.gearboxsoftware.com/showthread.php?t=243779&page=4 (Gearbox say they’re working on a fix – “The executable should become available once the game is unlocked in your region.”) THE GAME WAS RELEASED UNFIT FOR PURPOSE. The community manager’s words really shouldn’t explain the matter away.

And jesus christ. http://uk.ign.com/articles/2013/02/11/the-future-according-to-randy-pitchford

Looks like its true. A patchwork of crap sew together by lazy and incompetant hands. I’m prepared to be disappointed.

When has any recent game (except Deus Ex: HR, Skyrim, Borderlands 2) ever lived up to gamers expectations.

Well I like it, graphics are actually fairly decent on PC version maxed out, ok it’s not crysis but those games are dull as dishwater, this is Aliens with pulse rifles and loaders :)

To be honest i’ve played this over the weekend and i give it a 7.5.

Not worth £45 day one buy though. Story has some decent set pieces in it and the visuals match the film pretty well as do the sound effects.

Well, I plan to get the game no matter what. I am a huge Aliens fan and sure the game isn’t as bad as the reviews will make it seem. A lot of times reviewers are looking for moments that blow them away or new and fresh gameplay. While that is very desirable, not every game can deliver that. I just want a pulse rifle and Aliens to splatter. Binary Domain wasn’t anything fresh, but I had a really good time playing it. I believe it averaged around a 74%. Another example is Defender for the original Xbox. It got horrid reviews, but for some reason I loved it. I plan to buy it at lunch and play it when I get home. Hopefully, I won’t be in some real fruity shit.

I am not surprised if it gets a bad review from a lot of critics.

The game came out earlier in my place because of the Chinese New Year holiday. I am at the last 2 stages now.

Cons:
Graphics is outdated, alien’s body movement is a bit awkward, some stages has human enemies only (I bought this game for bug hunt, why human enemies?)

Pros:
Many fans service. Many reference to the movie. Sound effect, motion detectors, all give you the movie’s atmosphere. Has in-game small achievements (challenges) for you to go after, fulfilling them will raise ranks and let you upgrade weapons.

I recommend it to Alien movie fans. But not for average FPS gamers. Coop may be fun. I don’t know. Haven’t tried.
