Bayonetta 2 wouldn’t “exist” without Nintendo, says dev

Saturday, 22nd September 2012 18:56 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Bayonetta 2 would “not exist” without Nintendo, Platinum Games’ Atsushi Inab has said.

Speaking with Polygon at TGS 2012, Inab said Nintendo was exactly the strong publishing partner the developer was looking for to get the game made.

“Would Bayonetta 2 not exist without Nintendo? The answer is yes,” said Inaba, Platinum’s executive director. “We are not viewing this as a change of platform, we were looking for a partner to create Bayonetta 2 and Nintendo was a strong, cooperative partner that was willing to create and grow Bayonetta 2 together.

“As a result the platform became the Wii U.”

Inab also said fans shouldn’t worry about the impact Wii U will have on Bayonetta 2′s core gameplay.

“We create the basic framework of our games on the PC, so even though the hardware changes it doesn’t influence the creation of our games,” he said. “We’ve already developed our own engine to work with multiple platforms.

“Because of the Wii U GamePad, we are putting extra thought into how to use these differentiating features. There’s a difference in the game design side, but we are enjoying the challenges of creating games for new hardware.”

Inab wouldn’t be drawn on details regarding gameplay or plot, as he wasn’t able to talk about “all of the new things” seen in the debut trailer just yet. Instead, he said for fans to use their imagination for the time being.

I’ve been reading this website for months and never signed up. BUT Good Lord, someone please clarify this to the people who don’t seem to understand this.

Nintendo is publishing this game. Nintendo will publish it to whom they want. Nintendo would be stupid to publish this to the competition. If you want to play Bayonetta 2, buy a Wii U.

No, you will not get this on your non-Nintendo consoles.

@2, Sorry Bro, but Platinum Games owns the iP.

@3, Platinum made it quite clear how this game owes its existence to Nintendo. If you really think Nintendo would drop the money on the game in the effort to create a selling angle with the self proclaimed “hardcore” and not protect it under contract is crazy.

Platinum owns the IP which gives them all the liberty and freedom they want to make a multi-platform Bay3 or any sort of spinoffs they want. But for Bay2, Nintendo has it all to themselves.

    @3

Platinum owns the Ip but they do not own the game and assets. Platinum is welcome to remaking Bayonetta 2 with a new engine and new assets but they will have to find a publisher to pull that off.

People need to learn what owning the IP actually means.

Shenanigans- Platinum approached Game Informer Magazine for a cover feature 4 months ago- and it wasn’t for the Wii U. They were developing it for another platform. Platinum simply needed the exclusivity deal with Nintendo before they ran out of money and the game never got made on any platform. Which is fine with me. I’d rather have a game on the Wii U than no game at all. I will say this, I love how Nintendo is viewed as having “saved” this game (which they did), but when MS or Sony has an exclusivity deal people say they “bribed” the game company. LOL- Nintendo can do no evil.

Of course this doesn’t really change the “not existing” -part, since about 10 people will buy Wii U and they’ll only play Legend of Mario Bros Prime 3.14.

    Bayonetta Sigma, 2013.

    2012, 3rd party exclusives don’t exist.

    Aren’t generalizations a hoot?

#10, I don’t think Insomniac got that message.

After bayonetta 2 , my Wii U will be collecting dust

Whatever excuse they throw, this one fan won’t purchase an otherwise useless console just for their game, so they won’t have my money and I’ll still be waiting for Bayonetta 2.

Some of you are silly, really… So, I am a “hater” and I’m “stupid”, because I don’t like the fact that one of my favourite MULTI-PLATFORM titles is becoming Wii U exclusive?

    …okay.

Here we go again, NDF on the fence :D Srsly people, if there will be enough money, there will be a way. Just look at demon souls, Sony owns the IP, it’s even sony’s engine, but they just renamed the game, added some features and there you have dark souls for all plattforms.

There will be bayonetta on next gen consoles, if there will be money. I got to admit, that it’s really funny how some people live in their illusional worlds and think that there are other things that matter besides money :D

There was barely enough money for the first Bayonetta, no one fucking bought it yet now theres a huge out cry from everywhere that they now want the game. I don’t buy it at all. There was’nt enough money for Platinum to produce the PS3 version themselves and it got farmed out to Sega, who made a shitty botch job of it. The PS3 Bayonetta still runs worse and looks worse than the 360 version right now.

Going multi-platform for the first title lead to a lesser experience for that part of the player base that only owned Playstations. If it was 360 exclusive everyong that wanted to buy the game would have gotten the best version. You better believe if the first game was 360 exclusive there would be no fucking boycotts and stupid petitions.

Ninty paid, ninty got. Those who spend the moolah get the things. Fact of life.
Although I dont think this will remain exclusive for long. Just see what happened to 3rd party exclusives of wii.
    @OG
You know, vita also ran out of pre orders in many places. I hope they release numbers.

I thought that fanboyism was dead since 2011 when console gaming became outdated.

I think i’m wrong now and it’s just a WiiU launch, when PS4 or Xbox 720 will be shown I guess fanboyism will reach new level.

    Just look at this shit:

“#8, Sweet. Have fun with that.
The Xbox is for prepubescent blowhards.
The Playstation is for overweight virgins.”

    or

” dude thanks for that you just saved me wriitng the same thing lol, some people are really really unleanrnt and stupid lol. Bayo2 is all Nintendo”

@22 Demon’s Souls is not a good example, because Sony owns just the Demon’s Souls IP and not the technology, that’s the reason why From Software developed Dark Souls with the same engine of the first game.
Anyway Dark Souls is legally a new IP, unrelated to Demon’s Souls.

@25 I have a feeling TheBarstow was being sarcastic in response to Fin’s comment.

Besides, while people are stereotyping and making mass sweeping generalizations; aren’t you just as bad by declaring “console gaming became outdated”? You are sadly mistaken if you truly believe that my friend.

    THats not what they did.

Its a completely new game with different assets. “Not the same game with a changed name”. As I said Bayonetta 2 would have to be remade completely just like Dark Souls. Bayonetta 2 would have to sell more money than the original for them to be able to make the game again not only that find a publisher for it.

I will be getting a WiiIU and a bayonetta 2 regardless of this news as i would like to try several games on this machine (Including Assassins Creed, Batman, New Mario and many more). Lets be honest the fans of the series should be thankful that the second one IS coming!! Granted its not on the consoles we want BUT like already said there is no reason it can be done in the future but for now it is WiiU only so grow up and stop HATING! coz i guarantee If this was to be a similar announcement for PS3 or 360 there would be a fanboy war the likes of which have never been seen before!

I will be honest I’m a little upset that Bayonetta 2 is WiiU only BUT with that said it is (to me at least) another selling point for the wiiU.

Now if i remember correctly The original never hit the Wii for some unknown reason personally i would of loved to see it on Wii as the motion controls would have made it more immersive than 360 and PS3 made it.

I wont be getting WiiU right away BUT this will make me got one shortly after release :) So good on you Nintendo and thank you for bringing us Bayonetta 2 :)

Sorry if this post seems a little incoherent and babbling but it was written at like 7 am lol sorry again
