Minecraft Xbox 360 sells more than 1 million units in less than a week

Over 1 million copies of Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition have been snapped up since the sandbox title released less than a week ago.

Gamers are giving the game a thrashing if the statistics released by Microsoft are anything to go by. They’ve spent more than 5.2 million hours with the game on XBLA.

Over 4 million multiplayer sessions have been noted, which clocked a handsome 2.4 million multiplayer hours.

The game launched for Xbox 360 on May 9 and costs $20 on XBLA. This means it’s made more than $20 million, which is apparently going to be split in parts between Mojang, port developer 4J Studios and Microsoft.

Surely that’s a good percentage of the Psychonauts 2 funding right there, and the guys at Mojang didn’t even need to lift up a finger.

They had to lift a finger to re-code the game to fit the standards of the 360 along with Mojang had to pay for the certification of the game and MS takes 30% off the top.

It’s so well done. It may lack some of the PC’s amenities, but it stands up very nicely on its own merits. Great job on the programming. Quite a contrast from the buggy and herky-jerky Fez.
