Nintendo denies The Binding of Isaac a 3DS release

Edmund McMillen's dark rogue-like shooter The Binding of Isaac has been denied a 3DS eShop release.

"After a long internal debate Nintendo has decided NOT to allow the Binding of Isaac on the 3DS," McMillen tweeted.

"As many assumed the reasons were due to the games 'questionable religious content'".

Asked whether implied child nudity and mature themes had anything to do with it, McMillen said Nintendo okayed those aspects of the game

"Thank GOD Steam exists! I gotta again publicly thank Steam for fully supporting Isaac and not requiring ESRB or censoring its published games. Just one of many reasons why Steam is the top dog of digital distribution," he added.

When pushed for whether the game might see release on Vita, McMillen didn't reply - but did correct an assumption that he or Team Meat had any problems with Sony.

Thanks, GoNintendo. Twitter links: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
