Crytek “thinking about” how to bring back TimeSplitters

Crytek co-founder Avni Yerli has said the company is “thinking about” how and where to bring back TimeSplitters, but insists there’s “no concrete plans” in place as yet.

“Obviously Timesplitters, historically, was for [Free Radical/Crytek UK] an important IP,” Yerli told NowGamer.

“From our perspective we always had a lot of fun playing Timesplitters – Timesplitters 2 was amazing fun. Crytek and Crytek UK are interested in the IP; we are thinking about it but we’re trying to decide what we could do best with the IP, where we could bring it. There are no concrete plans yet.”

In terms of releasing a HD collection of sorts, it hasn’t “thought about that,” but that it was a “good idea.”

It was rumoured a couple of weeks ago that Crytek was developing TimeSplitters 4 for the next Microsoft console.

Avni had also said that a reveal of Crytek UK’s next game would come either at or just after E3.

Stop thinking & just do it! As long as you keep it authentic with tonnes of fun & variety, there shouldn’t be any problems if you market it well enough.
@1, Although I think it would be epic if Lucas Arts were to outsource development to CryTek, Lucas Art’s management just doesn’t seem to know quite what they’re doing any more.

This could mean that the story about Timespliters 4 for the new Xbox is nonsense, or this is all to try to fool us.

@5 You can’t really say either way right now, but it is interesting to note that Crytek have been mentioning TS4 here and there quite a bit the last few months.

If they do make another hopefully they can steer clear of the current trend for ironsight gameplay. The console FPS market is in serious need of another shake up akin to the original Halo or CoD4.

A new Timesplitters would make an ideal XBLA/PSN game.

How amazing would it be if Lucas Arts actually knew how to save the star wars franchise? Seriously, Battlefront 3 by Crytek UK (Tell all your friends free radical are now Crytek Uk because some people still don’t get it…) and then a new Jedi Knight by some of other amazing company.

More on topic though. Yeah I find it funny that ever since Crytek saved Free Radical talk about the game grows more and more. I still hold some belief in the rumor about them making ts 4 and going for the next gen xbox. I mean that kind of rumor is something they are hardly going to say yes to. Look at it, they said no to the xbox bit but no comment on ts 4? Think how many times companies have told us stuff that isn’t happening but does!

Whatever happens, I just want some more time splitters, one of the finest gaming series of all time.

@8. No way. I just.. I just can’t see it being that way. In my eyes it would feel like, It isn’t as important for a full release.

A full retail release would be so epic. Shit tonne of maps, weapons, glorious crisp graphics and a campaign with characters that make you slap yourself a few times and question what your playing. Ts is just too big a production to be put on XBLA/PSN in my opinion. They need to make this one mega big.

I doubt the next battlefront game will be made by Crytek UK since LucasArts signed a deal with Epic to make games only on Unreal Engine 3 and since Crytek like to use their own engine it’s unlikely that it will be made by Crytek UK

OK, 1st of all if Crytek take the HD collection route they should make sure Timesplitters 2 makes it in, IMO it was the best one. If not…

Ditch the map maker.

Expand the co-op gameplay (more players/objectives).

Bring back the FUN and interesting multiplayer and characters you can select, one thing I liked about Timesplitters 2 was the different heights/advantages of the characters, like the short monkey for example and the huge high-health golem statue.

Vehicles for the larger maps.

If you must create DLC bring back (remake) some of the old stages, the Chinese restaurant comes to mind.

Challenge mode was one of the most difficult and rewarding parts of Timesplitters 2 for me and could give crytek a chance to show off some their engine specific features such as physics etc.

TL;DR version – Expand on what Timesplitters 2 did while keeping the experience fresh.

In other words, he’s subtly confirming that TimeSplitters 4 is indeed in development. :P

One can hope it’s true, right?

It certainly doesn’t do much to dispel the previous rumors.
