Rumour: Rainbow Six remake detailed

Friday, 3rd June 2011 02:11 GMT By Brenna Hillier

Kotaku is claiming an insider source on the heavily-rumoured Rainbow Six remake, spilling details left, right and centre.

Industry weathervanes have been blowing due Rainbow Six for some time now, but Kotaku‘s claiming firmer intel.

According to the site’s sources, Rainbow Six is said to echo the franchise’s roots, eschewing the popular but unoriginal gameplay of follow up Rainbow Six: Vegas, with a focus on tactics and stealth over weaponry and squad use.

A cover system, switching between first- and third-person perspective, will be introduced, and an icon-heavy display tracks team mates and other useful information, presumably objectives and interactive objects.

The game’s plot will be a driving force in the game, with a far more ambitious storyline than in previous Rainbow Six titles. It’s said to focus foiling the plots of a US-based terrorist group, motivated by hatred of the financial sector, which has targeted New York.

Ubisoft’s announced E3 lineup is missing several expected action announces – so tune in on June 6 for a number of surprises, hem hem.

If they must remake something they should remake some of the older games we used to play.

Now if only Nintendo would be nice and let people remake anything that came out on their systems.

Hell, there are even old Sony games that could use the modern love. How about a XenoGears remake or Resident Evil 2?

Hell, I’d even go for Kingdom Quest or SWAT.

Introduced, wasn’t this how the Vegas games played?

So by remake does that mean it’ll bring back the planning stage before each mission? Cause that was the best part…

From this description it sounds more like a reboot than remake.

It’s never ever ever gonna be like the PC rainbow Six games (R6,Rogue Spear,Raven Shield). But that’s ok. I loved Vegas, Vegas 2 wasn’t that good. But it’s about DAMN time for a new one.

Most of Red Storm Entertainment left a long time ago. This is where they say they’re going back to the roots, while opening it up to everyone.

    Bullshit.

YOu guys seem to have forgot but most of the previous R6 locations took place in NY as well… Aside from the random training grounds here and there, or Siberian Base’s lol.

@9 – That is the whole goal with this new R6, going back to the “glory” days of Rainbow 6. The tactical planning, gear selection, and operation standpoint of each and every mission playing out the way you planned it. If done right, it will be successful. Just like in a real scenario.

@8 – The strategic planning map will be back in the game, as it used to be used to coordinate movements before each mission.
