Nomura hints at 2012 release for Versus XIII, next big update coming at E3

Versus XIII

Tetsuya Nomura has hinted to Dengeki that Final Fantasy Versus XIII is a 2012 release.

Speaking to the mag, Nomura, director of the game, apparently joked to forget about Versus in 2011, a year which features FFXIII-2, Final Fantasy Project 0 and Dissidia 012: Final Fantasy.

He added that the game will take time.

Final Fantasy XIII and XIII-2 producer Yoshinori Kitase couldn’t commit to a 2011 date for the game at gamescom in Cologne last summer.

Nomura mentioned that the next big update for the game will come at E3 in June at the earliest.

Following a 2009 mention which said an update could feature at last year’s E3, Nomura went on to warn that the RPG may miss the show. As it proved, the title did not turn up in LA last year.

Dengeki’s also gotten plenty more details on the game itself, which has been translated by Andriasang.

The trailer shown at last week’s Square event will go live on the Japanese Versus website tomorrow.

@4 I don’t think so, the director is a huge ps3 fanboy :)

My money’s on Versus XIII International coming to the 360 later. That way promises are kept whilst still netting S-E an extra slice of income for minimal effort.

Tetsuya doesn’t get to pick which system it goes for, Square does if they see more money with going to versus they will bring it to that system whether it be on release or later is another question.

@4 there’s no point in doing the same thing again.
last time they did it was for the sole reason that the main franchise will also be availiable on a Microsoft platform.Not for XIII per se
few will care now,it’s almost a given,the surprise would be if it remained exclusive

Nomura, SQenix, Jebus – PLEASE GIVE US AN OPTION FOR JAPANESE AUDIO!

I don’t even care if you can’t fit it on the 360 version (boo-hoo).

Ooh maybe I’ll go make an online petition about this… lolz

They only use that as a blanket statement the real reason is Square doesn’t want to pay royalties to the Japanese voice actors.

Why would you want the game to have audio you can’t understand?

@10

Is that really the case?

@11

Well, there’d be subtitles of course.

I want some real authenticity in a JRPG not wave after wave of annoying sounding American/English voice acting.

It might even encourage a repeat playthrough for some.

The best thing about Japanese audio is that it removes the usually-hideous Western actors from the equation. :-D

The japanese voice actors are generally worse. Especially the female VO’s, christ, it’s like have my ears cut. Persona 3 and 4 would have been shit with the japanese VO’s. Then you have stuff like No More Heroes which again would have been a disaster with the japanese voices.

@12

Yes that is the case. Square is not going to pay money to the Japanese VOice actor and put it on the disc when less than 10% will even listen to it.

Perhaps what we really need is the voices taking out altogether? Text ftw! :-)

I don’t have a problem with western VO’s to be honest. Maybe I’m just too used to them. The only ones that really suck are the ones voicing easter european games like Witcher and Stalker. Metro was a bit irritating too. And stuff like Risen and Divinity 2 can make me openly weep with how bad they are.

I found the cast of FF13 to be perfectly fine though. FFX… maybe not so much. HAHA HA HA HAA HA HA etc.

The US/ENG VA’s for XIII weren’t even that bad. I just remember talk of the possibility of this then.

If they don’t include them (just to save a few grand) then, imo, that’s part of the reason why they’re not the RPG-behemoth they once were.

Where’s the LOVE dammit?
