First Resident Evil 6 info coming “shortly,” says Inafune

Sounds like we’re going to be waiting a lot less than eight years for this.

Capcom’s Keiji Inafune has said in an interview with a Spanish website at a Dead Rising 2 event in Spain that we’ll hear the first information on Resident Evil 6 “shortly”.

This is what he said, according to Google Translated text:

“Given the great success that supposed for us Resident Evil 5, we want that Resident Evil 6 leaves as rapidly as possible to the market. In fact, you will shortly have the news of Capcom about this…”

Hitting the reboot drum

Nothing is known of the game right now, but whatever happens it won’t be under the leadership of RE5 producer Jun Takeuchi, who won’t be involved at all.

Before the release of Resi 5 back in March 2009, Takeuchi said the next title will give the series a reboot.

Tokyo Game Show sounds like a good guess, si? Keep them peeled.

Since its release last March, RE5 has sold 5.3 million copies as of December last year.

Thanks, GAF (via Kotaku.)

Just make it a true Resident Evil game……you know scary and maybe some cheesy dialogue but no tank controls or constant change of camera angles……GOD i hate you Nemesis.

Yep drag the controls kicking and screaming into the 21st century and I may look at this series again.

RE was always about tank controls. That’s kinda what made it scary. I got so tense playing RE5 because of the controls. Imagine if they had actually introduced some proper scares too!?

RE4 on Wii was amazing even with the stop/shoot mechanic. If they just add nice motion controls to 6 I’ll be happy.

yeah….RE 2 was the best one…..the most polished RE of all time. RE4 was too casual…it was cool, but it was…i dont know…not a true RE in some way..

And Google translated it wrong, this is right:
“Given the great suckness that supposed for us Resident Evil 5, we want that Resident Evil 6 leaves as rapidly as possible the style of RE4 & 5. In fact, you will shortly have the news of Capcom about a real RE…”

wait a damned minute! What happened to them saying that it would take about 4 to 8 years for another game? Then again what happened to re5 being longer than re4 and those features that were removed like dehydration? damn u capcom -_-

given this and the sales of re5 i expect another dumbed down pos like that garbage. Mikami or bust!

3 was way more fun than 2, and the gameplay was considerably better, the non linear structure was awesome, and powder mixing was plenty of fun. most replay value and a great Mercs mini game too. no less polished as well. albeit it became more of an action game than a horror one already. I guess as a game 3 was the best one, but as a horror one it’s 1 and 2.

I think Platinum should make a RE style title.

capcom intends for dead rising to overtake resident evil

The controls are fine. The problem with 5 was its setting. It didn’t look or feel like a “horror” game.

After the progressive steps taken with 4, why they thought giving it the appearance of a high-brow action game was a good movie is beyond me.

Id like Mikami to return to the survial horror genre, Resi 4 is one of the best games ive ever played.

Can we call it something else besides RE6. If this is a new fresh start with controls and everything I only think its proper.

FPS HELL NO! Be like the older Resident Evil? Please, it’s like asking we make mute cinema again. Give it a more agile gameplay, harder enemies. Hordes of zombies. Escape scenes. A chaser… COOP! If it has NO COOP it’s a lose now. Awesome cinematics… And a little Lovecraft touch, like the one in RE4, but this time more scary. Try to focus into the nights, jumpy stuff and so, so old fashioned fans stop crying. A little bit longer and lots of extras to unlock (RE5 was the RE I played the MOST because of this). And, of course, Leon and Jill together in this adventure.

not Leon no, I hate that sissy. Jill and Carlos.

I dont care what osric90 has to say but an FPS Resident Evil would be the way to go certainly if you want to go forward with the franchise. I think that if you set the game just after the mansion incident when the Resident Evil: Caliban Cove novel is based because then you’d have a mixture of settings from the forest, to the city to the suburbans and even the sewers. This game could also provide long winded progress into the zombie outbreak instead of being buried in zombies from the get go, it would be nice to see the environment change from Raccoon before the outbreak to the point of its destruction. This type of title could easily implicate multiplayer features with a selection of characters like the remaining S.T.A.R.S unit and possibly some of the characters from the Outbreak titles. It would also allow people who are intrested in more than just mindless action to get a more indepth feeling of the characters something like in Heavy Rain just not with the annoying controls.
