Watch Ray Muzyka announce Mass Effect 2 PS3 at gamescom

Star Wars: The Old Republic may be on the showfloor to all to play at gamescom tomorrow, and Dragon Age 2 may have looked awesome, but let’s be honest: this was the announcement of the show.
BioWare’s Ray Muzyka took to the stage in Cologne this afternoon to announce, at last, Mass Effect 2 would be coming to PS3.
It’s probably the best executed announcement we’ve seen ever. Get the clip below.
Mass Effect 2 releases next January for PS3.

Come January I’m going to have to decide whether I want to buy this, outstanding game, again or purchase something new.
Whilst I’d love an excuse to play through the title again (with, hopefully, packed-in DLC) I’m not sure I want to create a new character.
My Commander Shepard has been with me since ME1 on the 360 and I really like how I’ve shaped HER story throughout the two games… I don’t know if I want to sully that.

@3
According to Microsoft that is staying a 360 exclusive. I suppose because they published it they have the rights to it.

Great news for PS3 gamers, but i really don’t care much for it. I have played and finished it on the 360, great game though. I guess ME3 will come to PS3 as well now too. Too bad the PS3 ain’t getting ME1. How cool would a combi-pack of ME and ME2 be for the people who never played them? Ah well.

I guess I shouldn’t admit this, but I was one of the few that never put the time into ME2. Didn’t even buy it, only rented it.
I’ll get this I think. Would like to see some more info soon on what the bonus content is.

Its going to be the DLC that is currently released for the 360 or at least some of the DLC.

@7 I would still buy a 360 though, the console is simply much cheaper in price. Better online system, PSN still doesn’t touch XBL IMO. The 360 still has great exclusives like the Gears of War games and Halo of course. I own a Wii, 360 and PS3. But i use the 360 the most. For some reason i just never get to use the PS3 much.
Its all up to you though. Don’t forget though, if you want to play all the ME games, you need a 360. And ME is VERY worth it.

@7 if u dnt have a ps3, i recommend u dnt buy a 360. The ps3 is a more reliable built hardware, it comes with added blu ray, u dnt get charged to play online, the psn may have fewer game titles, but quality over quantity matters, and theres enough titles on psn to keep anyone happy, plus u wont find the type of quality games currently available on psn available on xbox live, and we already have the best 2 games on psn from xbox ( braid, peggle) with castle crashers coming. Now if u want to talk numbers, if the ps3 had been released dame date as xbox 360, ps3 will be ahead of the xbox360, there are more higher quality titles on ps3 than xbox360, if not the same, given the yr head start, plus the best looking games are found on the ps3, games that offer different/ unique experiences 2. now imagine if the ps3 had the same release date as xbox360, where it would be now. currently there are 7/8 xbox 360 exclusives known to be coming out in the next two yrs, with ps3 having 22 to 25 exclusives coming out in the next 2 yrs, excluding some Japanese rpgs i didn’t include. so clearly ps3 is the best console by far. Now that Me2 and ofcourse ME3 coming to the ps3, its a big blow for xbox. Great news for ps3 owners.

@10 nailed it, you’d be mad to not have both consoles. Too many great 360 exclusives to miss out on.

yh ill defo be getting this, all thats left now is left4 dead 1 & 2 to come to the ps3, then there is no reason for me to get a 360. Halo, gears pfft yeah right they dont interest me in the least. @12 “Too many great 360 exclusives to miss out on” ???? what 4 exclusives lmao.

@16 I think Portal 2 was a total shock at the time. This was on the cards for I while I reckon – most of them probably even knew.

Rawr hihi.
Nice to see that more people will be able to play ME, it’s ridiculous though that xbox fanboys have to say BioWare betrayed them :\
for the fanboys: 17082010 never forget- betrayalton.
And BioWare isn’t stupid they will make sure people will get to play ME1 on the PS3 they are probably gonna add some playable important moments so that people will know the story or someting.
Anyway….I can’t wait, my 360 can’t read the ME2 disc

“it’s ridiculous though that xbox fanboys have to say BioWare betrayed them”
Nobody here said they were betrayed by Bioware, in fact you will notice in the announcement thread that most xbox owners said they were glad more people get to play the game.
The only stupid comments were by PS3 fanboys. PS3 fanboys also made asses of themselves when Insomniac announced multiplat development.
Something about the platform attracts loudmouthed abusive idiots. It’s most baffling.
“And BioWare isn’t stupid they will make sure people will get to play ME1 on the PS3″
No they wont, ever. They dont have the license to as MS owns publishing rights.
They will undoubtedbly have a story recap though. It’s a real shame, as although ME2 is technically the better game, ME1 had a much better story with great tension and buildup which wont translate well to a recap cutscene.

@12
If you haven’t figured it out there are many fanboys that out of their disappointment and anger they’re spoiling these great news for ps3 owners with comments like “it’s only ME2,not the full experience” and even if also ME1 was announced yesterday they would come up with other quotes like “too late for ps3″ e.t.c
MS owns publishing rights of ME1.They also still own publishing rights of Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2…but Tecmo found a way to make the jump to ps3 adding “sigma”
Also EA published the PC version of ME.So it isn’t impossible.EA could find an “open window” to their advantage in their contract with Microsoft.
Still there is this mass effect genesis rumor going on…so anything goes

I’m thinking ‘Genesis’ might turn out to be the ‘Mass Effect 1 montage’ thing to introduce you to the story.

“there are many fanboys that out of their disappointment and anger they’re spoiling these great news for ps3 owners with comments like “it’s only ME2,not the full experience””
There are also many PS3 owners dissapointed at getting half a series. They are spoiling nothing, just correctly stating that such a story-led series is diminished by not having the best part of the story.
Out of interest, what is your take on the ‘GOW3 on 360 would make no sense’ garbage that was in the same thread?

@22 True…but we haven’t seen the final result yet.As far as we know Bioware-EA may find other interesting means to fill up quite nicely that ME1 gap
I think GoW3 as it is could be as a stand alone title on any other platform. But GoW isn’t a deep story based game.
Metal Gear on the other hand is…and MGS Rising is a spin off which as we already know part of it takes place around the same time frame as MGS4 seeing some events at Raiden’s perspective…still it may be experienced as a stand alone title in the series.

It’s not quite the same with games which had prequels on other platforms, though. You could say that 360 owners wouldn’t understand the story of MGS4, but lots of those 360 owners might’ve been PS2 gamers last gen.
