Namco looking to put in 15 years of know how into new Tales of PS3 title

Tales of PS3

The new untitled Tales of PS3 title that was announced earlier this week will see 15 years of experience and know how to bring the game to fruition, producer Hideo Baba has told Famitsu.

Very little information was given on the title following its reveal on Monday, but what Baba did say on it was to pay close attention in the difference between light and dark.

He added the development team was looking to include a new art look to the game, compared to the anime of Tales of Versperia or Tales of Graces’ watercolour.

He went on to say the basic framework for the game is almost done, and elements can now be added.

“While we can’t share screenshots and characters yet, the staff is putting its full effort into development to produce a game that’s suitable for the 15th anniversary,” said Baba.

A date for the game in Japan wasn’t listed in Famitsu.

Thanks, Andriasang.

So it will be just like all of the other games then? Same style, same mechanics, same everything?

Sounds about right.

Yup. :-)

That’s what the fans want, though? Isn’t it?

and the english fans have gone crazy at namco since there has been no news on any english localisation news. they have launched a campaign of tales fans unite, which posts on namco’s twitter and facebook about a possible release of the ps3 games or any tales game.

Vesperia’s art was awesome. Why would they wanna change it?

@1 Yes but you can say that about most games today, there is very little in the way of originality.

@3 Well if this is meant to be the reboot they seem to be attempting to put across, then an english localisation would be lovely. I dont care about the rest of europe, just release it in the US and I’ll import it. YES, you’re right, I AM selfish.

I don’t get the jokes about the game being the same. I mean, they just said they’re changing the look of the game, switching from anime style to something more realistic and dark… It’s definitely something unusual for the Tales series. And who knows if other changes lie within this re-imagining, like in the gameplay for instance.

Anyway, let’s just hope this one gets localized, since the chances of seeing here Graces F (or Graces Wii, for that matter) are scarce and we can definitely forget Vesperia PS3 at this point.

Also… in regard to the 15-years experience, they were mainly referring to the technical side of development:

“According to Baba, the development staff plans on putting to use the TECHNICAL knowhow they’ve gained in 15 years of Tales development. He said to pay attention to the contrast between light and shadow. They’re aiming for a completely new type of visual expression, something that’s different from the anime touch of Tales of Vesperia and the watercolor touch of Tales of Graces.”
