Has it really been a whole year since we last visited the Retronauts cabin in PARTS UNKNOWN? Well, seeing as we only make a trip there for our annual celebration: probably.
Anyhow, we're back with a brand new holiday special, though it's not at all related to Christmas, Hanukkah, or whatever else you happen to be celebrating this year. We kind of exhausted the list of holiday-related topics with our last special, so for 2014's, I decided to give our fans a gift they've waited over two years to see: a return to Retronauts Movie Month. Over at our old home, I used these episodes to explore classic cinematic disasters like Super Mario Bros., Mortal Kombat, and Resident Evil, so, with this new season, we had no choice but to turn our attention to more recent dreck. So buckle up your sleigh belts, friends, for a 90-minute exploration of a movie that probably took less than 90 minutes to write. (We kid, of course—it had to clock in at a solid afternoon.)
If you're not familiar with our Movie Month episodes, these installments break from our traditional Retronauts format by following the events of the film in question, with plenty of of tangents to go around. So if you haven't seen Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, it's available to stream, rent, and buy on several online marketplaces—and, just like any decent hotel, the full name of the movie shouldn't appear on your credit card bill. Still, we can't be held responsible for what happens if a friend, loved one, or pet walks in on you watching this. (We recommend fast-acting poison, just to be safe.)
Joining us on this episode is the Laser Time network's Chris Antista, who also authored the website A Cartoon Christmas, which continues to be the definitive source on all cartoon holiday specials. Thanks Chris! Hope you made it home okay. And, in case you're wondering, this episode features an excess of wintry video game music recommended to us by followers of our Twitter and Facebook pages. Your crowdsourcing (AKA "doing our job for us") efforts are greatly appreciated.
