Watch the first gameplay teaser for Streets of Rage 4

Streets of Rage 4's visual style and distinct sounds come to life in new gameplay trailer.

Dotemu has unveiled a new trailer for Streets of Rage 4. Much like last year's reveal teaser, today's video is also very brief. The important distinction being, of course, that it's our first proper look at gameplay.

Though the series has been dormant for years, Streets of Rage has many fans and they'll happily explain how different it feels from the many other beat 'em ups of its era.

Axel Stone, and Blaze Fielding return, and we get to see their updated looks in the more modern art style. There's plenty that's still very reminiscent of the originals, such as the low-fi sound effects, and grungy backgrounds.

Streets of Rage 4's team is made up of an unusual team up of several developers. Art is being handled by Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap's Lizardcube - and it shows, whereas indie team Guard Crush Games is programming, with design input from Dotemu.

Hopefully this won't prevent the game from coming together under a cohesive vision, and what we played of it certainly seems to suggest they're on the right track.
