Final Fantasy 7 Remake Fans Think They've Found Confirmation of the Kalm Flashback in Part Two

It's a major scene for Tifa, Cloud, and Sephiroth's development.

This article first appeared on USgamer, a partner publication of VG247. Some content, such as this article, has been migrated to VG247 for posterity after USgamer's closure - but it has not been edited or further vetted by the VG247 team.

Yesterday, the motion capture actor for Tifa Lockhart posted a new picture of themselves training with a sword. Not a big deal, right? Not to the Final Fantasy 7 community, who think this picture confirms a pretty major scene for part two of Square Enix's remake. Be warned, there are some light story spoilers for the original Final Fantasy 7 in this article!

Just below, you can see the picture that Haruka Shibai, who plays Tifa in Final Fantasy 7 Remake, posted to her Twitter account yesterday. The picture shows Shibai training with what appears to be a sword, or at least a wooden stand in for a sword.

Heading over to the Final Fantasy 7 Remake subreddit, there's plenty of speculation about what this could mean. Cast your mind back to the original Final Fantasy 7, and you'll remember that the only time Tifa uses a sword is against Sephiroth, when she attempts to use his own sword against him during the Kalm flashback sequence. You can see the entire sequence below, or skip to roughly 38:45 for the segment where Tifa uses Sephiroth's sword.

The scene just before this moment, where Tifa mourns the loss of her father, is actually in the first part of Final Fantasy 7 Remake. For the remake, Cloud has a flashback to a younger Tifa mourning her father in the second Mako Reactor, where he sees the younger character pick up Sephiroth's sword and leave the room, heading towards the chamber where Sephiroth and Jenova await.

Fans are thinking that the tweet from Shibai means we'll see the Kalm flashback play out in full in the second part of Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Of course it's pretty difficult to know what comes next for Final Fantasy 7 Remake when the ending of part one effectively tried to wipe the slate clean, but at least there's hope for the Kalm flashback making an appearance in part two.

Although we know part two of Final Fantasy 7 Remake is in production, it currently doesn't have a release date. There's also nothing concrete on part one of Final Fantasy 7 Remake being ported to the PS5, although Square Enix president and CEO Yosuke Matsuda hinted at a next-gen port last year in June when speaking to Game Informer.
