Monster Hunter World Deviljho DLC: everything we know about the first free DLC

Not content with a plentiful roster of beasts to slay, Monster Hunter World will periodically receive new monsters as free DLC. One of the first to arrive is Deviljho in Spring 2018, a large brute wyvern that, like Anjanath, shares more than a passing resemblance to a tyrannosaurus rex – or a pickle, depending on who you ask.

Capcom released an update trailer for Deviljho at the start of January, confirming the Spring 2018 release date, and giving us a bit more of a peek at its new look in Monster Hunter World.

Monster Hunter World Free DLC: What do we know about Deviljho

From the scenery, and how it’s chowing down on the poor, poor Great Jagras in the trailer, we can assume that Deviljho is native to the Ancient Forest.

This sets up all sorts of interesting opportunities for turf wars with Rathalos and Anjanath. We don’t know where Deviljho will sit in the hierarchy of monsters in terms of power level, but we can speculate that it’ll probably be quite tough to take down seeing as its been saved for post-launch DLC. It’d be strange to add an early game monster after the fact, so we think taking Deviljho down will be a challenge.

Capcom themselves have mentioned that Deviljho won’t be a pushover, and will drop items that’re useful even for players that’ve completed the game.

What can we learn from Deviljho in previous games?

In Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, Deviljho’s special move was a wide-ranging breath attack that dealt damage with the Dragon element – similar to Anjanath’s fire breath, but in a much larger cone.

Despite doing dragon elemental damage, Deviljho’s main weakness was Dragon damage, followed by Thunder. It’ll be interesting to see if these weaknesses carry over, since the apex predator of the Ancient Forest, Rathalos, is weak to these elements too.

That would mean you wouldn’t have to change equipment if you were trying to hunt them at the same time, and make for some fun Investigations where you have to take down them both.
