American McGee’s Alice trailer was fan-made, not official

Looks like the teaser trailer to American McGee’s Alice sequel posted earlier in the week was fan-made and not an official trailer, wrote McGee on his blog.
“Yesterday, a few sites picked up a video of Alice made by one of our fans and confused it as an official trailer of Alice 2,” he wrote. “I wanted to clear up any confusion – as I mentioned in my post it was unofficial, and does not represent any of the final art direction or story elements in Alice 2.
“We look forward to sharing information on the game in the future.”
Too bad. It was rather cool.

American McGee feels users should be compensated for created content
American McGee has told Geek.com that users who create content for games like LittleBigPlanet should be compensated for the added value.
“I seem to recall this being a ‘trend’ back in the Doom days,” he said. “The only difference now is that someone is trying to monetize it.
“That’s all fine and good, but I think if game products or publishers are relying on ‘outside the box’ content created by users to drive interest in their titles – then they should find ways of compensating those users for developing added value. That might even inspire the user content communities to step up their game.”
He also goes on to talk about the upcoming Alice game with EA, and his experience working on episodic gaming through Grimm.

American McGee has “blank canvas” for Alice sequel

American McGee’s expanding on his now-announced return to Wonderland – which is tentatively titled: The Return of American McGee’s Alice – says on his blog that the game will have the original executive producer and the same writer.
“The original Alice was a good bit of fun – and aspects of the original are still quite compelling,” he said.
“The challenge for us – to build a great game, and a sequel worthy of the original – is real, but not daunting.”
Speaking with Kotaku, EA chief David DeMartini says that the company has given McGee carte blanche.
“We’ve given him a blank canvas to go where he would like. There is nothing set in stone and nothing has been removed either.”
EA also said that more collaboration could be on the way with McGee, providing this one does well.

American McGee’s Alice to be reborn

EA and American McGee are to release a follow-on title to Alice. This is pretty awesome news, popstars.
It’s in development for PC, PS3 and 360.
“This new project is a dream come true for me and the fans who’ve kept the Alice flame alive,” said McGee.
“EA gave us creative latitude and support on the original game which resulted in something beautiful and daring. This trip through the looking glass promises to be even more exciting.”
The original was released in 2000, and was subject of probably the greatest Old Man Murray review of all time. Old skool, right here.
Press release after the break.
