A disabled gamer helped Naughty Dog have better accessibility options in Uncharted 4

Naughty Dog added a number of options in Uncharted 4 designed to make the game more accessible to disabled players. This was done thanks to input from Josh Straub, one such player.

Straub, who runs a website dedicated to rating games based on their accessibility levels, reached out to Naughty Dog UI designer Alexandria Neonakis to tell her that the button-mashing requirement for certain Uncharted 2 encounters meant he was unable to finish that game.

In a new video, the studio tells the story of how Neonakis took the matter to directors Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley and what was added to the game as a result.

For instance, Uncharted 4 gives players the ability to hold the button instead of mashing it, in encounters where that's needed. An instant lock-on feature was also introduced, to improve the experience for players with disabilities, reducing the reliance on the right stick.
