Konami has confirmed that the PC version of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain will not support a pre-load option on Steam. Which means that everyone will be hitting the servers at roughly the same time on September 1.

Robert Allen Peeler, the Metal Gear community manager, confirmed this to a fan on Twitter, and added that the console versions will still allow pre-load, which is somewhat puzzling.

Allen also confirmed the download will be available at midnight on September 1, with the Steam page changing from a pre-order to the regular "buy it now" at 10am PT on the same day.

While this is indeed bad news for anyone with a slow connection or data caps, the game's PC release was recently brought forward to be the same as consoles. So there is some consolation.
