First footage of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. wannabe Areal doesn't do it any favours

Areal, the first-person shooter that claims to be developed by ex-STALKER developers, has its first prototype video.

The video is of "early prototype footage that's not representative of Areal's final quality" according to the Kickstarter campaign.

In it, a man walks through a forest, shoots at something, sees a glow-in-the-dark dog and then falls over. Watch it here:

The development and fundraising for Areal has become a mudslinging match between its developers and anyone else related to previous S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games. In short, it's a clusterfuck.

The game has 6 days left on Kickstarter to reach its goal of $50,000. At the time of writing it stands at just over $37,000.

If you're after a spiritual successor to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. we'd recommend Vostok's free-to-play Survarium. It's good.
