First footage of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. wannabe Areal doesn’t do it any favours

Friday, 18th July 2014 10:31 GMT By Matt Martin

Areal, the first-person shooter that claims to be developed by ex-STALKER developers, has its first prototype video.

The video is of “early prototype footage that’s not representative of Areal’s final quality” according to the Kickstarter campaign.

In it, a man walks through a forest, shoots at something, sees a glow-in-the-dark dog and then falls over. Watch it here:

The development and fundraising for Areal has become a mudslinging match between its developers and anyone else related to previous S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games. In short, it’s a clusterfuck.

The game has 6 days left on Kickstarter to reach its goal of $50,000. At the time of writing it stands at just over $37,000.

If you’re after a spiritual successor to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. we’d recommend Vostok’s free-to-play Survarium. It’s good.

    Even though I AM after a spiritual successor to STALKER, I don’t care about multiplayer games and especially don’t want to play F2P games.

    This is terrible how the only singleplayer successor is a scam project.

    “S.T.A.L.K.E.R. wannabe Areal”
    So this is video game journalism? At least try to hide your bias.

    You seem to be pretty comfy with Vostok Games since you praise and promote them any time you report about this project.

    “If you’re after a spiritual successor to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. we’d recommend Vostok’s free-to-play Survarium. It’s good.”

    No, it is not, i’ve been in the closed Beta for some time and it’s abysmal, it’s a damn travesty, and the fact that it will be free to play is just hilarious. Vostok should be ashamed.
    It’s no more clunky than this Areal prototype, do you see the problem? One game has been in development for quite some time with a full team and the other is just a Prototype made by a couple people trying to raise money.

    @mamu-ti Survarium is honestly a travesty and more of a scam than this project. I can’t believe that ex Stalker devs could make such a piece of crap. I’ve been in the closed Beta for some time, all they have for you to test is a TDM on a small map, everything is cheap and clunky, the prototype video of Areal is higher quality than the pile of shaite called Survarium. I honestly feel betrayed, Vostok should stop calling it a Stalker successor.
    The fact that they were so hostile towards Areal just proves their own agenda and insecurity.

    @mamu-ti Oh and also the closed Beta already has tons of microtransactions, you start with horrible weapons and have to grind forever to get anything decent or shell out a bunch of cash.

    Fans of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. should better play the Lost Alpha remake instead of this crap. Lost Alpha is free (doesn’t evenr equire the original game) and features new story, new levels and up-to-date graphics. Go get it!

    This isn’t bias.
    The devs are scam artists. They proved it during recent AMA (By outright lying about the need for a PHYSICAL dev kit):

    Q: Have you already bought developer kits? Can you show them to us?

    A: Those times when you needed special equipment are gone. Now it is enough to conclude an agreement with a platform holder and download developer kits as software. You can get them for yourself!

    @OlekKing ,
    What is an Areal dev/PR team member doing here?

    Thanks Red. No wonder its a complete scam. 50k is too less for an open-world game anyway.

    @Dragon Never claimed that it wasn’t a scam and i’m not wasting my time following everything about it, i just don’t like how the author keeps shoving Survarium on every fucking article, that game is a pile of crap and shouldn’t be associated with Stalker in any way.

    @OlekKing ,
    Then I dont think you should have a problem with “S.T.A.L.K.E.R. wannabe Areal”. Because that it what the scam team is trying to lure the fans in.
    One of the few kickstarters that I hope fails hard.

    @Dragon No, i have a problem with them pitching Survarium on every single article about Areal, regardless if this project is a scam or just a bunch of unorganized devs with 0 experience in PR, i’m fucking tired of seeing a link to Survarium’s website and the author telling everyone how good it is. That’s simply dishonest.
    I was extremely excited when i got invited into the closed Beta since there was such a good vibe around the game and not a whole lot known, right when i first played it, i was simply appalled by how horrible it was, the Areal prototype video literally looks better.
    Survarium is a half assed F2P game and i am sure it will flop hard, Stalker spiritual successor my ass.

    Survarium is not a single player game. The differences between a single player and multiplayer-only are too massive to overlook.
