Candy Crush Saga maker King withdraws trademark application for "Candy" in US

Candy Crush Saga maker King has withdrawn its trademark application for "Candy" Kotaku reports.

The trademark was filed in the United States, and per documents posted o the US Trademark Office, the application was pulled yesterday.

An application for "Candy" was filed in February 2013, but just recently made headlines after the firm aggressively pursued its "Saga" trademark.

A spokesman for the company issued the following statement to GI International, noting the trademark withdrawal only applies to the US:

“King has withdrawn its trademark application for Candy in the U.S., which we applied for in February 2013 before we acquired the early rights to Candy Crusher," said the rep.

"Each market that King operates in is different with regard to IP. We feel that having the rights to Candy Crusher is the best option for protecting Candy Crush in the US market. This does not affect our EU trademark for Candy and we continue to take all appropriate steps to protect our IP.”
