Beyond: Two Souls multiplayer mode, tablet and phone control revealed

David Cage has announced that Beyond: Two Souls will feature a two-player "Dual Mode." It'll allow a second player to control the game's ghostly entity called Aiden. Dual Mode will allow players to turn their smartphones and tablets into a controller.

When playing alone, the player can switch between control of Jodie, the game's protagonist, and Aiden, who is a ghost attached to her. In Dual Mode control is passed off by pressing the triangle button, shifting control of Aiden to a second player. Two players won't be able to play as Jodie and Aiden simultaneously. Dual Mode means that whenever control is shifted to Aiden, the player in control of Jodie will have to wait for their turn. It's not quite a co-operative mode.

David Cage hopes that this allow an observer to feel more involved in the action.

Phone and tablet functionality will work much as you'd expect. It's called "Beyond Touch" and requires players to download an app that lets them perform every action in the game via their device's touch screen. In Dual Mode, both players can use their phone or tablet.

Beyond: Two Souls launches on October 8. It's a PlayStation 3 exclusive.
