They’ve got my attention. I decided to leave CoD behind after the MW3 mess, but I’m definitely gonna be watching this one.

The thing with this one is, it looks very good in certain parts in the trailer and this underwater video is quite nice. But then there are other parts where you just see that this isn’t a new engine at all. And what i’m afraid of is, how much will the mechanics have changed, if at all? I am SO tired of running around with a soldier and not really seeing any head-bobbing like in BF, Dishonored, Far Cry 3 and so many other titles. I also want these guns to feel more punchy and more powerful. So far what we’ve seen of gameplay, it looks very very much the same.

  7. DSB

I don’t see why anyone would change the core of the worlds most succesful videogame.

Unless they’re Rockstar, but they didn’t really add anything by doing it.

It’s not gonna be deep, it’s not gonna be clever, it’s gonna be Call of Duty. They may up the graphics, the physics and the level design, but they’re not gonna walk away from the things that make the games work.

I hope they change the ‘invisible trigger points’ and enemy spawns in the single player mode.

But is adding a head-bobbing effect and a bit more punchy feeling/sounding guns changing the game that much?

I want a decent SP, with characters you can build a legacy around.

I’ve always enjoyed the MP, but without a solid fiction to refer to, it feels like i’m just buying map packs… OK, i am just buying maps, seeing as I didn’t even touch the SP of Blops 2.

Hell the reason Zombies is so popular is due to the four main protaganists & thats through voice acting alone!

Halo has Master Chief, Team Fortress has… Too Fucking many… Who have Call of Duty got now?

Ghost? Gaz? Frank? Price? Gary Oldmans Dracula pretending he’s Russian?

    CoD needs an icon.

    & not a fucking dog.

    #10 2 years ago
  11. DSB

@8 We can only hope, but “creature closets” and obvious spawning seems to be a problem in most shooters these days.

@9 Depends on how invested you are. I’m glad that CoD has gotten better sounds over the years, it was pretty shitty with MW and MW2.

I think small changes to the mechanics make a huge difference. Do the weapons have higher dispersion or lower dispersion? How good is the balance between damage and dispersion? How powerful are the killstreaks? How easy are they to get? How much variety do the weapons offer?

That’s what turned me off the series. I don’t care that they keep tweaking, just I think they’ve done a pretty poor job of it since Zampella and West left. Now it’s all about restricting the gameplay instead of pimping it out.

    #11 2 years ago

    I’m not expecting much.

The dog seems like it’s going to be an obvious Kinect voice control gimmick, and I have no intention of shouting at my TV.

    I don’t even like dogs.

    Speak for yourself DSB.

I actually couldn’t care less about multiplayer. It’s campaign all the way for me.

live to see some split screen co-op campaign love. So unlikely though with cod.

    #18 2 years ago
  19. Hcw87

Don’t know why anyone would buy a cod game just for singleplayer. Campaigns are 4-5 hours at most.

Bit disappointed since it was next gen footage, BF3 on 360/PS3 looks as good as that.

Should have gone with a new engine.

Also in the future you can remotecontrol dogs with laptops. Good to know.

@21 You’d think they’d actually put some of that money back into the game design.

    #23 2 years ago
  24. Gekidami

I was actually thinking the same thing, that exact example, BF3 on consoles looking just as good if not better. Only the underwater part looked impressive, the rest does indeed look average, very current-gen.

    #24 2 years ago
  25. KAP

That dog breach scene looked fucking awesome.. even though I haven’t bought a COD title since MW2 I still can still appreciate the year dev time and how much their able to pull off in said time.

It’s kool these days to slam COD on the Internet but yet millions of those very gamers get sucked in to the hype to buy them.

    It’s a game that’s popular, don’t hate.

With that said though, damn.. Guess BF4 is still my most anticipated FPS for the launch of next gen.

    #25 2 years ago

    A mixed bag, looks wise.

Some of it looked very next gen, but other parts could’ve easily been mistaken for current gen stuff.

Gameplay looked as all action as usual. Not your run-of-the mill, been there, done that, cut and paste, action scenes.

Did get a bit of a gears of war vibe, though, too. Especially with the dog behaving a bit like a ticker.

Oh, and the dog stuff was meh. I don’t even like dogs.

    And who is Riley?

Finally… Kind of stupid that they’re still using sounds/voices/audio straight out of CoD4!!!

    #26 2 years ago
  27. TheBlackHole

Single player has multiple difficulty settings, then there are the co-op missions separate to the main story mode. Then there’s zombies.

Whoever thinks that a single 5 hour runthrough of the main campaign is experiencing everything except multiplayer is really missing out

    #27 2 years ago
  28. TheBlackHole

60fps at 1080p will make that sucker look 100 times better on a decent screen.

    #28 2 years ago

^ No zombies from IW, actually.

    #29 2 years ago
  30. harr0w

would of preferred to see it @1080 looks pretty much like COD all the action/explosion boxes were ticked. I actually liked the dog which surprised me, didn’t think it was going to implemented in any sort of decent fashion. All in all what i expected from a COD game so that’s probably millions of teens drooling over it.

“60fps at 1080p will make that sucker look 100 times better on a decent screen.”

not really. Previous games on the PC were in 60 fps, 1080p with AA and so on.. The difference between consoles and PC’s are not that big.

    #32 2 years ago
  33. DSB

    @27 Who’s Riley?

It looked to me like Geoff Keighley got stumped by that one too.

It’s a reference to Simon “Ghost” Riley :P

    #33 2 years ago
  34. Erthazus

Nothing next gen was there. Only for some giganoobs there is something next gen when there is even fog from Call OF Duty 2. Lightning is outdated because engine does not support shadow bokeh, decent particles and other DX11 stuff.

Animation and other stuff is what you get from the current gen games at the start of X360 generation.

@38 That wasn’t criticism, it was just having fun with CoD-logic. I think it’s part of the fun to see what they come up with.

I don’t think I’ll have much of an opinion on the game itself until they show some multiplayer.

Watched again. God damn awful. The game looks worse then the first Medal Of Honor.

The only difference between 360/PS3 past CoD games and “Next Gen” so called is that with XBOX ONE and PS4 they can easily use “Depth of field”. That’s it.

I’m so amazed on how Activision can milk the franchise to death since it’s first game.

Yeah… So far ‘next gen’ is shaping up to be a small increment over last gen. At least for another year or so till people find there feet.

I actually expect things like Metroid U (if they show it), to piss all over most PS4 & X1 games. Wii U def has some breathing space.

    #45 2 years ago
  46. Hcw87

CoD isn’t really the best game to show off next gen tech. First few games on current gen sucked major ass too btw, Perfect Dark Zero was such a letdown.

Nintendo needs to announce a new console with better specs and without the motion control crap, and i’ll consider buying one.

    #46 2 years ago
  47. Bloobat

mmmn a bit underwhelming, I mean it was solid call of duty but looks way too safe, not the great imagining they are billing it as.

Graphically the only bits which stood out to me was at the end of the letterbox video in the city, breaking through the window and then the sliding right at the end looked great…almost as if they were pre-rendered, I am not saying they were they just looked SO much better than the rest of the footage which is a bit strange.

Bring on more BF4 and KZ:SF at E3 tomorrow :)

  49. Phoenixblight

The game is being developed for next gen and current gen system so to expect some ground breaking eye candy is a bit much especially at the launch of Next gen. Only games I would expect to show some new eye candy are the first party exclusives.

  50. monkeygourmet

    So far we only have:

    Drive Club
    Witcher 3

And I think only one or 2 of those will launch with PS4. Not sure about X1 till 2moro, although the first year (2014) of next gen looks to full of multiplatform ports.

Looks to be 2015 for the good stuff to hit its stride, the Wii U will be £99 by then! ;)

    #50 2 years ago
  51. Phoenixblight

    “…the Wii U will be £99 by then! ”

I hope so! I can see myself purchasing a WiiU along side of having a PS4.

Watched the stream. Looks like CoD alright. Follow a companion AI that tells you everything you need to do as you traverse through heavily scripted cinematic events. Already played this game 3-4 times.

I did appreciate that they managed to let a totally sarcastic hype tweet through on the livestream. Something about “OMG look at the fish move out of the way – so next gen!”

£99 is a fine price to pay or a system with 15+ quality exclusives.

Anyway, I only brought Wii U up as I’m finding it hard to be that impressed with any of the currant ‘next gen’ demo’s. I hope that will change 2moro. MS specs worry me a bit, especially for a console that may have to last 8 years.

    #57 2 years ago
  58. MadFingerz

Shame…at least please tell me this game has an Irish pikey going on about dags for 10 minutes.

  59. monkeygourmet

One of the biggest thing I dislike about gaming at the moment is companies draaaaaasging things out. Nintendo really fucked up the Wii U launch, it’s been in hibernation till this point.

I have a feeling the X1 and PS4 will be similar. The first year will be full of ‘safe’ ports and a few exclusives, also most of the features won’t start working till 2015, Gaikai etc…

By then, Nintendo will almost be ready for a new console, or at least a new handheld!

Dog knows what PC GPU’s will look like by then?!

Ok, I’m somewhat curious now, give me 5 minutes

    #61 2 years ago

Yeah, I think I’ve passed the point of expecting to see anything super amazing.

The problem with current visuals is that they can only get a bit sharper, have a bit more smoke, or a bit brighter lens flare. When you’re looking at the exact same ‘snappy’ animations from 7 years ago, and badly modelled, idiotic NPCs, most visual gains are lost.

For me, the only real big changes are probably going to come with new gameplay innovations, so yeah, I’m here waiting for E3, too.
