GTA 5 delay: Rockstar dismisses “conspiracy theories”

Monday, 4th February 2013 23:48 GMT By Brenna Hillier

Grand Theft Auto 5′s delay has brought on an epidemic of tinfoil hats, and Rockstar isn’t amused.

In a comment added to its original delay announcement, the publisher has called on its clamouring community to calm the fuck down.

“We understand many of you guys are disappointed with this news,” the post said.

“Unfortunately sometimes such delays are necessary in all forms of entertainment, and especially in the case of a game experience as massive and complex as GTAV. However this does not give you free reign to be abusive in comments.

“Also: To those of you saying or seeing various conspiracy theories about there being some other ulterior motive for this delay, rest assured that they’re all nonsense – literally the only reason we’ve delayed the release is because we want the game to be as good as it needs to be.”

The publisher also promised to release boxart as soon as possible.

Grand Theft Auto 5′s release date was pushed back from an expected northern summer release to September 17, on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Although if any franchise can take a delay in its stride its Grand Theft Auto, the impending release of next-generation hardware has inspired any number of interesting theories about the new date.

+1 for Rockstar, they’ve actually got some balls, unlike other devs…

“We admit we need time to polish this game, you can cry all you want… FUCK YOU we want this game to be awesome instead of a mess.” :D

    I hate this shit…

No one has ever said it WASN’T ambitious….

Just don’t fucking announce stuff till your ready…

It’s all part of bullshit marketing…

Every big game gets an announce then delay, it’s not conspiracy theories it’s just bad time management or marketing, end of.

    Bioshock Infinite
    Gears 3
    Last of Us
    Etc… Etc…

All the gamesites are acting like this is news. But this was said by Rockstar last thursday.

Either way…they kinda brought it on themselves this time. They misled fans and kept claiming things instead of being honest about things. Announcing that Spring 2013 was the first mistake, what followed were plenty of other stupid mistakes while stringing along the fans.

I’m sure they loved most supermarkets and game shops covering themselves in GTA5 posters and cardboard stands for a couple of months, drumming up more advertising and customer interest… Only to have the same thing happening again in a couple of months…

I wonder why their advertising department and dev studios weren’t working closer together…? Oh I forgot, they were…

Such bollocks… I wish people had the balls to admit it sometimes…

Especially considering how much Rockstar lampoons advertising and products in its games…

anabelleeping suck my cock for starters.lol.
This delay is not a bad thing,it just means we get the best game possible and for all the babies crying, just get a job or life, theres lots of games to play in the meantime.
I personally think that they should pull it until next gen consoles anyway so it can hold up against the pc version that is not announced yet,why dumb down a game that obviously needs the extra gpu power to be amazing instead of just great
My opinion that means shit but its mine and i think im right…..anyone agree

You think they should pull it until next gen? Basically what you are saying is…they should thrown down 5+ years of extremely hard work down the drain? If not, my bad. But if so,that’s ridiculous. The game’s going to come out on current consoles and it will make these consoles go out with a bang. This game will be played to death by me, even when the ‘shiny’ brand new consoles have been released.

Of course but it could still be released alongside new consoles and PC aswell as 360 / PS3?

Given this new release date was when people were roughly assuming the PC version coming out and that’s still not been announced yet. It’s not crazy to assume that the PC version would appear Nov / Dec time 2013…

And that would be bang on with when people expect a new console release… Just an idea yo! :) stranger things have happened!

Not happening. Why do you think they push the PC release 6months to a year to release it later? Because its the same team that worked on the console version that is doing the porting. To port to a new system(s) with new parameters and specifications is not as simple. Just because they can port it to the PC =/= they can do the same for the new gen. Rockstar has always delayed their releases because they want to polish it more and they can because it will sell by the bucket loads still.

Yeah fine. I don’t honestly care either way.

    Just speculation, don’t worry dude.

But the end of your paragraph is most true: it’ll sell loads anyway.

As I said earlier above, Rockstar knows how to market shit and drum up excitement… This isn’t always about getting the best product for YOU the gamer. Lots of their games have been buggy as hell.

GTA 4 had shitty screen tear and performance issues for example.

It’s just marketing plain and simple. I like Rockstar, but their fans truly see the, as Rockstars!

Whatever… For one, I am really happy with the delay. First half is literary jam packed with awesome games.
At least they weren’t like this-
“We don’t have the game, heres the IDEA FOR THE GAME, enjoy!”
This was the most stupid announcement ever for a video game.

Edit- GTA4 was the only game I bought for multiple systems, pc and ps3. I stopped playing pc version as I failed to finish one of the near end game helicopter missions. I finished the game on ps3, and found it perfect. No bugs affected the game for me.

What was the point of the last part. You just seem to be trying to make a jab? Not going to work on me. I have owned GTA IV for the PS3 and the PC along with the DLC for both and I have played over 100 hours on the game altogether so I could care less about the minor bugs.

Screentearing in GTA IV? I didn’t encounter that much, if at all. But the performance in general…was nothing to write home about indeed. I wouldn’t describe Rockstar’s games buggy as hell though. I had little to no problems in GTA IV when it comes to bugs, same with RDR, only a few fun glitches where horse-carriages would just bump around for no reason and MP3 was pretty damn flawless for me. I love their games this generation. They remain one of my favorite,if not favorite developers. But i said it before..this kind of marketing is really shit yeah.
