Borderlands 2 coming to the Mac

In yet further proof that the Mac is ready and able to get its game well and truly on, Gearbox and Aspyr have teamed up to bring the skragalistic lootfest that is Borderlands 2 to the land of Apples.

Initial reports have the Borderlands 2 bangfest being made available on both Steam and Aspyr’s GameAgent this month, with an appearance on the App Store coming soon after. Nice to see Captain Scarlett and her Pirate’s Booty (so to speak), and the Mecromancer class will also be making their appearance, and that cross platform multiplayer is stock and standard.

Aspyr have also made note that not all Macs will made the grade. Minimum system specifications are:

  • CPU Processor: Intel Quad Core
  • CPU Speed: 2.4 GHz
  • Memory: 4 GB RAM
  • Video Memory (VRam): 512MB
  • Apple original CPU’s only, CPU upgrades not supported

That last line may rule out hackintoshes, but time will tell there. In addition, the following video chipsets are unsupported for Borderlands 2:

  • ATI RADEON HD 2000 series
  • NVIDIA 8600m
  • NVIDIA 9400m, 9600m

To be fair, those video cards are .. let's just say, a little long in the tooth. I doubt you would see them run Borderlands 2 with any grace on Windows either.

At the end of the day, this is great news for everyone. More platforms means more potential players to team up with, and I think it's great to see publishers supporting the gamers in us all.

Thanks, Cult of Mac.
