Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will offer PS3 users the chance to install a texture pack, Treyarch’s David Vonderhaar has confirmed.

CVG reports that Vonderhaar confirmed the option on the official Black Ops 2 forums.

“Black Ops 2 has an option to “Install Textures to HDD,” he said, “When we explained to PS3 folks that installing to the HDD wouldn’t necessarily give us any significant performance gains, they explained back that the issue is they play so much it puts constant stress on the Blu-ray drive and wears them out. Roger that.”

He added that the size of install would need a “a non-trivial amount” of hard drive space.

This is great news, myself and many others have been asking for this option since MW2. It should save a ton of wear and tear to the Blu-Ray drive. Currently with MW3 the entire game runs from the disk and its constantly chirping away while I play for hours on end.

Thank You Vahn and Treyarch for listening to the community.
