Beyond Good and Evil 2 in-engine shot appears, fanboys go into meltdown mode

Tuesday, 8th May 2012 11:23 GMT By Johnny Cullen

It actually lives. AGB‘s gone live with what appears to be an in-engine shot of Beyond Good and Evil 2.

Creator Michel Ancel had said yesterday the sequel had gone into “active” development for next-gen systems.

This is the first in-game sighting of the game since a video showed off a brief segment of gameplay in 2009. Ancel said yesterday that it was based off parkour-like game that seemed to be inspired by Mirror’s Edge.

“We had this concept even before Mirror’s Edge launched. And we have a different approach to the first person perspective that Mirror’s Edge has. Prince of Persia and Assassin’s Creed are closer to what we have in mind with the control of the character in a third person perspective,” he said.

BG&E2 was announced in 2008 during Ubisoft’s Ubidays event, but has largely gone underground since besides brief appearances in interviews from Ancel.

Ancel and his team at Ubisoft Montpellier are currently at work on a Rayman Origins sequel, Legends. More details are expected at E3.

Ubisoft had no comment to give on the shot.

Whats impressive with this picture? For a next gen game it sure has alot of jaggies. Next gen consoles better have real AA.

Yeah, it looks distinctly current-gen. Then again, look at the 360 launch titles; they look distinctly Last-gen :)

I would be real interested to see just how old the screenshot is, or more specifically, just how old the build that this screenie represents is.

@5 2009, apparently. Or at least that’s when the current generation version was canned.

I imagine there isn’t really anything to show of the next-gen version.

@2 Finally figured out how to invert the camera controls on the PC version of Beyond Good and Evil (and I hope that they don’t make another camera control mistake in the sequel). Details: http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Invert_Y-Axis

I don’t get it. I’ve seen static RAGE screenshots that look better than this.

Why are people expecting this to look good? Its not because Ubi announced that the game was being made for next gen platforms that this screenshot is on ‘next gen’ tech, the game was being made for current gen consoles too you know. This pic is probably from one of the first builds, running on PS3/360.
