Diablo III beta gets downtime after opening up

Blizzard is performing downtime work on the Diablo III beta after it apparently opened up to anyone with a Battle.net account, suggesting that wasn’t meant to be the case at all.

“The Diablo III beta is currently not available for play while we’re working to resolve an issue,” said community rep Ulvareth.

‘We don’t have a current ETA for the beta to be back and running at the moment, but we plan to share an update with you in approximately 2 hours from now.”

The Diablo III forums itself and GAF claimed earlier the game’s beta had opened up to anyone who had a Battle.net account.

Players who didn’t have access to the closed beta beforehand were apparently able to download the client, then download the beta itself and play it.

Blizzard said yesterday the beta would end on May 1.

Diablo III launches on May 15 worldwide. Thanks, StolenGlory.

Isn’t on my EU or KR account. It is on my US account, but it was added there during the first wave of invites.

I’ve already got it, so I can’t tell. Just waiting on Blizzard.

I checked earlier randomly and didn’t see anything about the beta client.

I can download the actual game client and did so about a week ago. I just can’t install the game until release day.

I’d love to have beta access though.

@Pat, Always rubbing that fact in, ain’t ya… ;)

Try signing in again viral, alot of people on the D3 forums are saying that its the starter version of the game, so theres no AH or what not. Im getting the client just now and Ill give signing in a bash once its done.

@4, Cheers but I just checked again and there’s no difference. Is it listed as anything in particular on there? Under my D3 tab it just shows the D3 copy pre-purchased and the WoW annual pass offer.

Updated. Blizzard’s just said it’s investigating.

“Investigating?”

Don’t like the sound of that :(

Not sure about this. Seems like some kind of error on their side.

@11 A shame really, as not only would have it made a nice gesture to the community, but it would also have made a lot sense from a server-stress standpoint.

I recieved 2 invites.

One I know I signed up for. Yet I got another(unique) one shortly after that, same email addy. But I have three wow accounts tied into the email addy in question. I also recently bought a yearly annual pass for one of my wow accounts.

I thought I got preferance on my first invite because of the YAP, but am at a loss to explain the second one.

So yes an error at their end makes sense.

Right. So it’s been shut down. Could vg247 let us know when it gets back up? And if we can actually play the beta? Would be nice. Thks.

Beta ends May 1?

Crap, I need to get the maxed out achievements ASAP.
The recent wipe of all characters isn’t helping too.

I hate that the game can’t be played without an always connected to battlenet thingie. Except for in house lans, i never played Diablo II online. I don’t see Diablo III any different.

Yeah but it is not that important for most people.

As almost everyone is always online anyway thanks to cable/dsl.

Sucks if you wanne play “on the road” with a laptop in a train or at your girlfriends place etc.

A much bigger issue will be the servers.

As many people have connection problems, little lags/spikes, time outs, high ping etc so many people will die in game and loose progress cause of it…or cant play at all. THAT SUCKS BIG TIME!!! mmo crap

I am in Europe so i will have excellent servers as usual, guess America aswell.

But people in Australia/Asia/Africa etc…always troubled by servers.

“I hate that the game can’t be played without an always connected to battlenet thingie.” Wait, they haven’t dropped this feature? And they are still asking us to pay 60 euros for the game? No! I’m a sailor. 6/12 months I don’t have an internet connection. So in my case it’s good that I have pirates who actually care.

@18 Wait, have you played Starcraft 2 at all?

I totally agree that always-on is a shitty solution in any situation, but Battle.net is one of the most powerful matchmakers out there. It’s designed for competitive gaming.

You’re never going to guard against guys who download porn while they play online though.
