The Binding of Isaac's design will inform Team Meat's next game

Popular indie rogue-like shooter The Binding of Isaac will influence the direction of Team Meat's next game.

The Binding of Isaac was designed by Edmund McMillen, one half of Team Meat.

"I wanted to make a roguelike game because I wanted to test the formula so I could use it in the next big Team Meat game," Mc Millen said in an interview with The Indie Games Magazine.

"The next game will feature quite a few aspects of Isaac’s design, that was the real reason I started Isaac."

The designer commented that the upcoming project, which will see him back in harness with Tommy Refenes, will also reference an early 90's game, but in a different way.

"The next game will feature elements of a popular game from the early 90s but they will be much less literal than [Super Meat Boy] and Isaac," he said.

Team Meat's Super Meat Boy became a huge hit on Xbox Live Arcade and later Steam despite being as tough as gorilla steak. The Binding of Isaac has seen similar success and has been praised for its daringly dark aesthetic, simplicity and undeniable replayability.
