Modern Warfare 3 revamps killstreaks

Thursday, 30th June 2011 23:46 GMT By Andrew Groen

There’s not a whole lot of meat to this story, but it’s a juicy tidbit nonetheless. Infinity Ward has stated that killstreaks will be reimagined in Modern Warfare 3.

We have nothing more to go on than that, but you can thank Infinity Ward community manager Robert Bowling for sparking our curiosity.

It doesn’t appear to be some kind of a small tweak either. “We changed the entire way the killstreak system works,” said Bowling.

“I can’t go into detail yet, but I will share when I can.”

Thanks, Destructoid.

    It’s now based entirely around microtransactions; 80msp for a UAV, 2400msp for a nuke.

    Killstreak rewards are nothing more than a lame way of making skill-less players feel like they’re pwning, when really the game is doing 90% of the work for them.

    Gone are the days when getting a high score in an FPS game actually meant something.

    yes, ofc they had to revamp these too. I mean, they did it with graphics, sound, gameplay etc. etc.. so why not the kill streaks too. they’re so awesome for pushing this ahead and giving us a new game every year or so. pfff LOL! epic fail IW!!!

    @8 Hope not :(

    @7 Yes spouting the same lame dweeb nonsense that every other too cool for COD *gamer* spouts, makes YOU unique!

    @6 Er no, killstreaks reward skillful gameplay. If your constant being killed by some guys killstreaks, YOUR skills are lacking.

    @1 Don’t go giving Kotick ideas! :)

    @9 Not to mention the fact that you can avoid nine out of ten of them if you’re paying attention.

    When you hear an incoming Predator or an AC-130, here’s an idea: Don’t hug the guy next to you, and don’t run around outside when you have a nice big red square framing you on the map.

    The only serious killstreak that doesn’t require effort is potentially a carepackage, and the higher tier killstreaks are very rare with those. I don’t mind throwing the less skilled a bone like that. They should keep at it until they can earn them themselves.

    That was one of MW2′s biggest strengths in my opinion. The game rewarded you for not giving up. You don’t see teams emptying out as soon as they fall behind, like you’d risk on a dedicated server with no such system.
