PlayStation Move hits 8.8 million sales

Tuesday, 7th June 2011 09:32 GMT By Johnny Cullen

Sony announced last night during its E3 press conference that PlayStation Move sales has now hit 8.8 million sales.

“There’s no question PlayStation Move brings something unique to the table for everyone,” said SCEA boss Jack Tretton. “The PlayStation Move catalogue is unmatched.”

Last night, Move played a considerable chunk of Sony’s show, showing 2K’s NBA 2K12 on stage with LA Lakers’ Kobe Bryant, as well as well as Zindagi Games’ Medieval Heroes.

On top of that, despite admitting being skeptical of it at first, Irrational boss Ken Levine appeared on stage to confirm Move support for the PS3 version of BioShock Infinite.

Dust 514, CCP’s FPS that connects with its flagship MMO EVE Online, will also use the motion controller.

Sony also announced a $150 Sharpshooter bundle for Resistance 3, which will include a copy of the Insomniac shooter, a Sharpshooter itself, a PlayStation Move controller and a PlayStation Eye camera.

The sales of Move, while no doubt strong and impressive, are still 1.2 million off the last-reported sales figure for Kinect, which was at 10 million in March.

Thanks, GI.

Definitely a lack of dedicated software since launch, but lots of support as an optional control system in games and it works very well in a lot of those.

No matter what you wanna say about MOVE, the core titles that was mentioned last night more then made up for it. Also the fact that MVE sold 8+ million states that to sony MOVE is obviously a profitable extension to there arsonal.

I for one thought the sony conference is the one to beat and if Nintendo doesnt bring it this evening clearly sony has won E3, ironically not actually meaning shit but, hey.

Oh yea the Kobe Bryant segment was fucking jokes. he just pointed at the screen expecting the game to play its self. Classic.

Whatever…Tretton probably bought half the Move units just so he could use that number, they were flopping like a fish out of water a few months ago so I doubt all the sudden everyone decided hey let’s go buy the HD version of Wii rip off…if Kinect sales were 10 mil in March then they were probably up to at least 12 or 13 mil if shitty Move really sold that much units…that’s probably how much units they shipped that are in stores collecting dust…both Kinect and Move had shitty software line ups but at least Kinect was doing something unique and different even if its not the best tool for use in core games…Move just said hey let’s make a Wiimote clone for the ps3 and that’s pretty much all they did…can’t wait until this shitty motion control fad is finally over with…hopefully Sony and MS don’t incorporate the shitty tablet controllers into their next consoles though…knowing them they would at least wait a few years which is fine with me cuz I don’t want that stupid shit…
