"Nearly" all PlayStation VR games can be played with a DualShock controller, says dithering Sony

Sony can't make up its damn mind about PlayStation VR, now just three months from launch.

PlayStation VR costs $399 and requires a PS4, making it an expensive bit of kit. If you've been eyeing off one of these virtual reality headsets, you're probably wondering whether you'll also need to fork our for a set of Move controllers or can get away with your existing DualShock 4 pads.

You'd think we could just lob a shoe at Sony and screech "Oi, mate, do I need the suggestively-shaped waggle sticks or what?" and that would be the end of it, but people have been doing that all week and the story has changed at least twice.

As of right now, the latest information is a statement provided to The Verge:

  • "Nearly all PlayStation VR titles will support DualShock 4 controllers, and several games will deliver an enhanced experience that further immerses gamers with the use of peripherals such as Move or the recently announced Aim controller. There will be a limited number of titles that require Move controllers."

That's in contrast and as a follow up to one given to Eurogamer earlier in the week:

  • "All PlayStation VR titles will support DualShock 4 controllers. However some game experiences will be enhanced with the use of peripherals such as Move or the recently announced Aim controller."

In other words, if you're not keen on motion control or investing in further peripherals, do check the packaging on PlayStation VR games carefully to be sure you're getting a DualShock compatible title.

This news isn't especially surprising, as Farpoint's announcement heavily hinted that it would be exclusive to the Aim controller.

PlayStation VR launches in October.
