The first gameplay footage of free-to-play Crytek FPS Warface has emerged, while Crytek MD Avni Yerli has said the Asian game represents a “major stepping stone” for the studio.

As reported by GI, Crytek said today that the upcoming game will be operated in China exclusively by Tencent, a large operator in the region.

“The development of our first free-to-play online project marks another major stepping stone for our studio,” said Yerli.

“We are excited to have the opportunity to partner with Tencent who are recognised as the largest online game community in China and a world-class online game developer and operator. We believe this game will make a glorious achievement in the Asian markets.”

There’s no date on it yet, and no news of a western release at all.

For the MMOFPS that looks impressive.

Call Of duty:black Ops with filters and anti aliasings don’t even stand close to these visuals and physics and Warface (god what a name) is just a MMOFPS.

    I want it in HD.

    Looks good.

Curious what’s the motive to producing and releasing a FREE online game such as this?

Where exactly did you hear that this was a “MMOFPS”? Far as i know they havent said how many players it’ll support.

RPS had a feature on it a bit back, where Crytek said it was an MMOFPS, as I recall.

To expand on that, IIRC, it’s one targeted at Eastern markets as well. Which means it’ll likely be grind-focused in some way and will involve microtransactions.

    Rock, Paper, Shotgun?

I dont see any feature about the game when i search their site. The only pieces they have are about the announcement and this video. Both are sourced to VG247, btw. :D

    “It’s war, in yer FACE”

I literally couldn’t be more unimpressed. For a company that likes to talk a good game on pushing the envelope, making a CoD/BF clone is about the biggest anticlimax imaginable.

They did say it was aimed at the asian market, so I guess it’s just designed to be a cashcow for a specific region.

Yeah, this is just a cheap way to get more asians involved in something else rather than just the regular MMO or World of Warcraft. You know, open more business opportunities.

@9 Still, making what looks like a basic ripoff of Bad Company 2? It’s an alpha and all, but in the current state I wouldn’t be able to tell the two apart.

It’s also pretty funny that Activision seems to have made a deal with Trijicon on scopes. No Acog or RedDot for you!

@fredje, thank you very much. Very impressive stuff.

@Geki, ““The development of our first free-to-play online project marks another major stepping stone for our studio,” said Yerli.”

    thats the MMO thing only.

^ Wha? Nothing in that quote suggests it’ll be an MMO. Sorry but i think i’ll wait for them to actually announce stuff rather then jump to assumptions based off nothing.

Free-To-Play project for Korean, Chinese market is always a MMO. I’m saying that because i played these games.

Thats not the assumption. It’s going to be free to play and you can jump right in to it and buy pistols, shotguns, scrolls for better Experience for real money and thats a model of F2P.

Or a slighty developed version of Call of Duty: Black Ops or MAG.

+ Solid amount of recoil and fighting inside from chooper is kinda cool.
    - Game look like Mag(mag is on PS3 and 256 player support) and this is on PC from fucking CRYTEK
Red dot and interface look also like shit

Again, that link just assumes its an MMO, it dosnt base that claim off anything Crytek have said. Intill i actually hear Crytek or some preview that played the game first hand say that this game will have atleast over 100 players in a game at a time (and even thats a weak number for an MMO these days), i dont have any reason to call it an ‘MMO’.

I’m not saying its not an MMO, but no one has had any valid reason to say it is one either.

@Geki, MMOFPS can be 2 vs 2 players or 4 vs 4 players.

MMO is not about players, it’s about subscription model ONLY. If there is F2P it’s already confirmed it’s a MMOFPS in the Chinese market.

Previous Chinese MMOFPS’s had not more than 8 or 16 players online.

^Thats a complete travesty of what “MMO” means. Thats the BS PR term for MMO, to pull in suckers because MMO’s are popular right now. Its pretty clear what an MMO is literally, the clue is in the name; “Massively Multiplayer Online”.

How does a game simpley being free mean its suddenly an MMO? In that case you can stretch the term even more by simpley elminating the free part and call every online game an MMO.
Halo and CoD can both be played in multiplayer online, they’re both ‘massively’ played too. Therefore they are MMO’s.

I bet you disagree with that, yet by calling a game like Warface an MMO even if it only allows the same amount of players in a single game as CoD, you’re in no position to argue.

As i said before MMO is about Subscription model, not players. you don’t understand what is MMO at all.

Example of a game that supports even less players than 16.

    http://www.team-tactics.net/forum/index.php?topic=42.0

here you go just as an example of a Korean MMOFPS.

    http://pb.plaync.co.kr/ – official site.

As i said before it’s all about the Subscription model.

Seeing you make idiotic statements is not unusual, Erthazus, but this is too much. So a free MMO isn’t an MMO? If Blizzard would make World of Warcraft free-to-play tomorrow, would it suddenly stop being an MMO?
