Halo 3 outsells Sony’s big exclusives combined

Aaron Greenberg has gone on the Twitter record to state that according to new NPD data, Halo 3 has outsold a number of Sony’s big hitters.
According to his tweet, Halo 3 has outsold both Resistance 1 and 2, Uncharted 1 and 2, Killzone 2 and God of War III combined.
Youch.
Greenberg didn’t provide the exact sales figures, but it doesn’t take a massive stretch of the imagination to know that Halo 3 sold $GOD, but better than all sales of those huge Sony titles combined? That’s impressive.
We’ve mailed Microsoft and NPD both to see if we can get the exact figures.

There’s a difference between a typo and a spelling mistake.
But thanks for the thought.

So, it went to dissecting install base ratio on PS3 to… nothing.
Business as usual?

talking about variety. i agree that there is more variety on the ps3 and ms should do anything they can to get some more variety (square enix FFXIII and maybe more? was a good start). sure they got ME and fable but it still is pretty racer – shooter dominated. xbox needs a solid platformer ip like r+c…problem is platformers don´t sell so good anymore – shame – (ok some italian brothers always sell like hot cakes)…still i like the 360. and while this already is fanboyzone here i tell you why. i just LOVE the 360 controller and always hated the dualshock. i will never get used to that flumsy thing and the uninspired design of the psn…ah and home..the rest of the ps3 is awesome.

I think it was a calculated statement, coming out of nowhere and carefully timed to coincide with a significant event in gaming today.

If this thread is any indication of the level of idiocy we’re going to see for the next week or so then I’m going on a VG247 holiday.
It pains me to see such massive levels of consumer electronics fuelled retardation.

3 year old sequel to 9 year old franchise, backed by $40 worth of marketing outsells 6 games that have much less marketing power behind them.
Well it better f’n do Greenberg cos it’s what your Xbox lives for.
Also, may I point out that all those games earned Sony back MORE money than Halo 3 did, or did you forget that Greenberg?

@110. I am curious on what you mean by those games earned Sony back more than Halo 3 did for MS? Never heard or thought of that.

By the way, remember that this is US only, where 360s outnumber PS3s 3:2.

What brought on the nonsense this year? Is it a symptom of Sony’s success, that suddenly the fanboys are drawing steel over the pecking order? We haven’t had this kind of nonsense in a while, like E3 is like some kind of sporting event.
@Cort: the significant Anglophonic countries have basically the same 360:PS3 sales ratio. EDIT: he was talking about the specific games, not the consoles, my bad.

That’s the best thing I’ve seen on this site all day. Cort you have to be here for E3 week!
Dannybuoy, we’ll save that for next week. Everyone get plenty of rest. E3 is like the Olympics for fanboys
Everyone choose a console go out there and do your best!

That’s some deliciously selective logic in Greenburg’s remark. Cherry picking numbers to promote your product is neither new nor practiced by one company over any other.
What is it that people say? That the best form of defense is offense?

That’s only in the US folks, because worldwide said games amount for 16 millions whereas Halo 3 ”only” sold 11, still impressive though.

Similar to today’s comment about attach rate of games in the UK. When you look for only the positives you tend to ignore what is really happening.
If it is true that people in the EU are getting games from the UK, then their claim of a high attach rate in the UK is probably incorrect. Halo 3 outsold those other games in America where there are many more Xboxs than PS3… had they included WW sales numbers then you could probably cut out 3 of 4 of those 6 games to form an equal number. Doesn’t seem too pretty now Regarding attach rates; they likely base it off of total software sales divided by total system sales. If you were to compare EU attach rate in total not just UK then we’d get a better picture. Also notice there is no mention of US atach rate, where its is probably only 3 per console (Halo 3 and COD MW, MW2).
Cheers

I don’t think there is any fanboism in my comment, just a logical reasoning of the PR spin.
“When you look for only the positives you tend to ignore what is really happening” the same can be said of Sony’s comments re:PSPGo

Last time we got the attach rates from NPD for the US it was:
360: 8.2
PS3: 6.5
Wii: 6.2

I don’t think I was commenting on your post, Mad-elph. sorry if there were some reasonable posts here, don’t feel like going through 2 pages.
fanboyism isn’t the only thing that makes N4G so impressive.

well I was corrected by Psycho. I was speaking on the basis of my friends. However now that I think of it they do like GTA and L4D.
I wonder how much this is all affected by the PS3 sells cause its a Blu-ray player… so if we tossed that lot out what would the attach rate be for PS3? Just curious, certainly Sony could monitor games played on a system to see how many really game… much like their comments about X million PSN accounts, well I have 5 on my PS3 but only one every gets used. They report what seems impressive, but all with PR spin.
Sorry Gadzooks!

@Mad-elph
No worries mate.
It just rankles me when people make the generalisation that Xbox is only about shooters. I have around 70 Xbox games including download titles, covering almost every genre I can think of (with the notable exception of platformers) and only 6 of those are shooters (mix of FPS and TPS).
It’s true that online shooters are more popular on Xbox, probably due to the more suitable controller and XBL party/voice comms functionality, but Sony has about as many shooters in it’s library and has marketed them very hard.
Anyone who says one platform has a more diverse catalog than the other is clearly not looking in the right places.
