It looks like BioShock 2′s DLC is already on the disc

It looks as though BioShock 2′s Sinclair Solutions tester pack, paid DLC released yesterday for the shooter, may already have been on the disc.
Users over on the 2K forums have picked up on the fact the download is only 24k on the PC version and 108k on the 360 version, leading the the assumption it’s just an unlock for content that’s already there.
The content costs 400 MSP.
The pack includes:
- Rank increase to level 50 with Rank Rewards
- New playable characters – Louie McGraff and Oscar Calraca
- 20 new trials (available for rank 41 or higher)
- A third weapon upgrade for each weapon
- Five additional masks (available for rank 41 or higher)
This won’t go down well. We’ve asked 2K for comment.
Thanks, Blerk.

Blimey. I know others will argue the opposite but I feel this ‘locked out but on the disc dlc code thing’ is taking the mick a bit.
Especially the weapon upgrades: won’t this split the users in a pretty silly way? (unless I’m mistaken – only played the mp for a bit to see if it was terrible)

It was obviously done so none DLC buyers could see the skins that the DLC folks are sporting.

What difference does d-loading 200mb instead of a 100kb key make?
Is that little bar increasing a manifestation of your money being spent?

It’s not the size, it’s the fact that they’re making you pay again for something which was obviously finished and ready before launch and therefore should’ve been included in the price you paid for the main game.

@Blerk
Why should it have been included?

Because if it’s on the disc, you should have already paid for it. If it was ready before release and they didn’t include it on the disc then that’s still a bit pissy but at least you’d have been none the wiser. Doing it this way is just rubbing the customer’s face in it.

It’s a no win scenario though. The Xbox has a tiny patch limit and the DLC is for general multiplayer use yes? So if you bought the DLC, got your new skins and weapon upgrades you’d still play with people who don’t have them, so if they don’t have the content they’d not be able to see your skin/weapons and as such would segregate the community no? So by doing this everyone has the data.
I think the only game that has had proper patches on the 360 was Burnout Paradise, where all the content was added in patches from the marketplace and you just bought the unlock key to unlock content in the patches.

You pay for the game as delivered – i.e. without these features, and if you do you thought this was a fair price. What’s on the disc and when it was developed is irrelevant.
If they spent extra time on the content above and beyond what they said was available in the game and it was ready before the game ships then isn’t it in the consumers interests to have it on the disc? Doesn’t take time to download and doesn’t use up HDD space.

Why is it a bad thing? DO you mean that its quite reasonable charging a 7-10hrs SP game for $60. and not more for a 5hrs SP and untold hrs of MP?

Glad I traded that game in. I will not be buying anymore 2K Games ever again. Now Capcom, Ubisoft and 2K.

It’s a tricky wording in all these EULA’s, but technically you’re not buying the disc per se, more the licence to use software and the disc is provided as a form of delivery, you don’t own everything on the disc, just what is stated in the licence you bought. It is devious though, but as I said, it’s something that is going to happen unless Microsoft changes it’s policy on patches, which isn’t going to happen because not everyone has a HDD.

@DrDamn:
By the same merit, it is in the consumer’s best interest to have it free of charge. Why stop at bandwidth and HDD space issues?
@Hunam:
What does Microsoft’s policy on patches have to do with this?

Bioshock should have never got a sequel as the first game was a masterpiece. Its like someone trying to paint a better painting then the Mona Lisa!!!

Pricing and value is a separate issue. If the game as originally sold is poor value for you then don’t buy it. If the DLC is poor value then don’t buy it. These are all separate issues though.
What I can’t understand why *when* and *how* DLC is released has any logical bearing.

There’s no law that says that if you buy a disc that you legally own all of the code or software on that disc.
In fact, depending on the EULA, you might not even own ANY of it.
So, I go back to my old analogy.
If you buy Microsoft Office, you get EVERYTHING on the disc, whether you’ve paid for Student, Professional, Small Business, Standard or Enterprise, you get them all on the disc.
So where are the hordes of moaners whinging about not getting all of the Office programs, since they’ve bought the disc??
Nowhere! Because they’re not silly enough to believe that MS owe them every little bit of code that they ever wrote for Office, that’s why.

Beautiful!
“yeah…we already made it…and included it on your disc…but if you want to use it you have to give us money…even though you already own it…”
Isn’t that what we call extortion in the real world? Good job 2K!

Is there someplace where the EULA for B2 is posted? Maybe we need to do some homework.

Let’s say you buy a car, $20,000. You get home and find your key doesn’t open the truck. You call the dealership and ask what’s going on and they tell you that you bought the car to drive around in, not transport things. Even though the trunk is already there the key is going to cost you an additional $2000.
That’s what this DLC is, you’re being forced to pay additional for something you already have.
