Bethesda to publish RAGE

rage2

Zenimax will publish id’s RAGE, the Bethesda parent and id-owner just announced.

EA was to sell the game originally.

“Electronic Arts will not be involved in the sales and marketing of RAGE,” said Zenimax in a statement.

“The ongoing development of RAGE is unaffected by this development.”

PR after the break.

Well, so much for that initial flurry of ‘this doesn’t affect Rage’ press releases. :-D

I wonder how much money exchanged hands? :-)

Do you think it will affect development when this becomes ‘Fallout: New World’?

I take it with Medal of Honor being the new focus of EA’s shooty shooty bang bang they wanted to offload anything they didn’t need and Zenimax saw this as a nice way to fully internalise id quicker.

so win-win for both sides?

I’d imagine so.

Plus that last EA partners game sold about 12 copies.

Hun’s theory is plausable.

In fact, thats the one I am going for.

Brutal lolgend.

EA only distribute the physical copies of Valve games, beyond that they do nothing.

Our glorious language is built on semantics. I’ll kill you before I’ll give up my nuances.

So EA won’t be breathing down anyone’s neck here, trying to rush the product out the door and cutting short the QA thus forcing us to update the game every other second and then when EA sees the game is doing well, they are going to ask the developers to release 60 expansions packs by the end of the month where at least one of them will contain a blue couch and an IKEA lamp?

EA wouldn’t have had any control in what id did outside of making the original game anyway. That’s not how external publishing works.

They only changed the game title:
RAGE: another fallout crap.

Seriously, we want Black Isle back.

@The_Villa: RAGE actually looks really nice. Beyond the fact that it is post-apocalyptic (like every third game or film these days), it’s really not that reminiscent to Fallout.

With that said, a new Black Isle-Fallout would be nice. Much like a new Shenmue.

Obsidian are making the next Fallout, though early comments make it out to be using the same engine/style as Fallout 3 rather than isometric fun.

I wonder if this will come out in 2010 as well, if it does next year is going to be insane

I hope so. If anything can beat 2008, it’s 2010.

@ Anders: I meaned the way that Bethesda Softworks has made the fallout franchise a lot of crap, and the way they are overexposing it.

My language isn’t built on nuance. It’s mainly built on bull-shit, lingual percolation, with occasionlly excessive employment of syntax, … !! ? And I can’t type very well.

I don’t understand why the publisher matters. For me it’s all about the developers.
